In June, we are hosting two in-person help sessions for those looking for extra assistance applying to the Municipal Financial Relief Program. To apply on the spot you will need to bring the documents needed to apply to the program with you. Full details on eligibility and how to apply are available on The County Foundation’s website.

Can’t make either date or you are missing a copy of your Notice of Assessment?

If you do not have a Notice of Assessment (NOA) for all the income-earners in your household, or if your income has decreased since you last filed your taxes, contact Prince Edward Learning Centre ([email protected] or call 613-476-1811). They can verify your income using other acceptable documents.

The Municipal Financial Relief Program helps people in Prince Edward County who have low incomes. It gives grants that can lower the amount you pay for property taxes or municipal water. The municipality offers this program and it is delivered with support from The County Foundation and Prince Edward Learning Centre.

Last week we hosted our first session on Planning Your Legacy: How Gifts in Your Will Can Change Lives. We were thrilled to see such a wonderful turnout, with many community members joining us to learn how they can make a lasting impact through their Wills and Estates. Our Executive Director Dominique Jones and estate lawyer M. Cath Collins shared practical information and helpful tips on incorporating charitable giving into estate planning, helping attendees explore ways to support the causes they care about for generations to come.

Thank you to everyone who came out to attend. A thoughtful legacy gift, no matter the size, can help strengthen our community and support the future you want to see.

Please join us in welcoming Siobhan Maheux Galway to The County Foundation! 💙

Siobhan (she/they) is joining us this summer as our Grants Administrative Assistant, providing support to the Municipal Financial Relief Grant program and learning about our work in the community.

Siobhan has lived in the County on and off since 2017. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in film studies from Concordia University in Montreal. She comes to the County Foundation from a background as a curator and short film producer. She loves reading, riding her bike to the beach, and listening to the radio.

We have so many incredible community champions in Prince Edward County. The Municipality has launched a Civic Recognition Award to celebrate those amazing individuals and groups, so if someone comes to mind, consider submitting a nomination to recognize their impact!

People who give their time and energy to strengthening our community deserve to be celebrated. ❤️

County Council is excited to honour and celebrate the everyday heroes who make our community extraordinary through the Civic Recognition Program award ceremony this fall. 🎉

🚨The public is reminded of the upcoming nomination deadline of Tuesday, June 30 at 4:30 pm.

🔹Nominate an outstanding resident or group prior to the deadline to shine a spotlight on those who go above and beyond! Your nomination will help the municipality recognize people who lift others up, bring the community together, and make the County a better place to live.

🔹Residents of Prince Edward County of all ages – individuals or groups whose volunteer efforts go “above and beyond” – are eligible to be nominated.

🔹Award recipients will be honoured at a special fall ceremony open to friends, family, and the public.

TCF Staff Dominique and Gillian along with our Board member Thomas were in Kanata this week for the Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) peer gathering for Ontario community foundations. Dominique was even put to work emceeing the two-days with the Executive Director from the Niagara Community Foundation!

This was a valuable opportunity to connect with peers from community foundations across Canada, learn from one another, and take part in meaningful conversations about the issues affecting our communities. For one of the fireside chats on the agenda, Ottawa’s Mayor Mark Sutcliffe joined Ottawa Foundation’s President and CEO Michael Maidment for a candid conversation on how community foundations and local governments can work more effectively together to address today’s challenges and drive community impact.

Community foundations bring a unique hyper-local perspective to these challenges. We combine community data, local knowledge, and strong relationships with the organizations working on the ground to meet local needs.

Sometimes community foundations can feel like the “best kept secret” in our communities, but awareness of our work continues to grow. While each foundation approaches grantmaking, donor engagement, and community leadership in its own way, we are strengthened by our national network and united by a shared commitment to the communities we serve.
