We’re really feeling the love as we reflect on this past weekend’s 21st edition of The Maker’s Hand. This year’s celebration of fine craft was extremely special to us, as it marks the first year the show was held at the County Arts Lab inside the historic Armoury in Picton. Now, we’re taking a moment to share just some of the friendly faces who made this year's show extra special!

We send our most heartfelt THANK YOU to all exhibitors, sponsors, and volunteers, along with the County Arts team, and to all of the fine craft lovers who came through our doors and braved snowy weather to meet and support these talented artists!

We extend a special thank you to Elizabeth Crombie Real Estate Team for being a long-time supporter of The Maker's Hand, and we’re grateful to have had Libby at the show throughout the weekend to chat with visitors! Thank you so much as well to Visit the County for sponsoring this year’s show and helping to get the word out. Our sincere gratitude also goes to the Municipality and the Ontario Arts Council for their support of the show.

Thank you so much to the owners of The Armoury, as well as our supportive and collaborative neighbours.

We were thrilled to hear many attendees describe the show as high quality and well-curated. We saw lots of familiar faces as well as new ones, from near and far, and getting to see visitors chat with all of the friendly exhibitors about their artistic process was a treat for us!

We’re already looking forward to next year’s show - stay tuned for details and updates!

Andrew Phua (APhua) is the designer and creator behind GetFancy by APHUA, offering bespoke clothing and fashion accessories that invite wearers to experience fashion as a form of wearable art.

As a multidisciplinary artist, Andrew’s work merges fashion, photography and art. His designs are deeply rooted in sustainability, using forgotten and repurposed materials to create meaningful, custom garments.

“I believe in moving away from disposable fashion and embracing sustainability through slow fashion,” he says. “That’s why I actively seek out and use remnant fabrics from a variety of sources, giving new life to materials that might otherwise go to waste.”

Blurring the lines between fashion and art, Andrew’s latest project, FASHION BECOMES ART!, transforms clothing into display-worthy pieces, redefining the relationship between fashion and visual storytelling.

Eve and Chris Harvey of Besom offer a modern take on the traditional craft of broom making, creating handmade brooms, brushes and dustpans using traditional techniques with locally-sourced wood.

Blending fibre arts and woodcraft, Besom is rooted in tradition, functional beauty, and a commitment to sustainability. Their work invites a deeper connection to the natural world, and by using natural plant fibres and foraged wood from Prince Edward County, the pair ensure that each broom and brush carries a piece of the County's unique character.

“By embracing these natural materials, we respect the Earth and its resources, while also creating products that are built to last,” they say. “Each broom is a testament to the value of quality, intentionality, and sustainability.”

Each broom and whisk is hand-tied using traditional techniques, honouring the land and time-tested methods to blend traditional craft with timeless design. The end product serves both a practical and aesthetic purpose, built to last far into the future.

Anneke Allers of Allers Atelier offers contemporary jewellery inspired by the wild at heart, created for those who adore unusual things.

For Anneke, designing jewellery stems from a lifelong awareness and pursuit of creating beauty. Originally from South Africa and trained as an interior architect, both aspects influence and inform her design aesthetic.

“When designing my collections,” she says, “I aim to create pieces that test the boundaries of what we consider a jewellery piece should look like to be comfortable and wearable. I believe in creating work that is unique and timeless, that can become an heirloom piece for a customer and carry their story over to the next generation.”

Anneke has always loved working with her hands, and discovered jewellery making at the age of seventeen. After practicing for over a decade as an architect in South Africa, she attended weekly classes at a local jewellery studio. Once she moved to Canada in 2016, she changed careers to fulfill her passion of creating unique beautiful objects with her hands. She launched Allers Atelier in 2023 and hasn’t looked back since.

Tamila Lesov is the founder and creative director behind TJ Indigo Clothing Co., creating natural indigo shibori-dyed clothing and accessories that combine modern comfort with timeless quality and style.

Tamila offers up "slow fashion” by crafting each piece in small batches from premium natural fabrics, using low-impact dyes, and utilizing local fabric manufacturers and suppliers.

TJ Indigo Clothing Co. is an award-winning one-of-a-kind clothing brand designed, sewn and hand-dyed in Toronto since 2015. Having grown up in a family of artists and trained in academic drawing and figurative work, Tamila’s creations stand at the intersection of multiple influences, from the structure of classical training, the energy of abstract expressionism, and the passion for detail of Japanese craft.

“I believe in beauty that reveals process, folds, stitches, and dye marks that cannot be repeated, only recorded,” she says. “Each piece is an expression of authenticity and imperfection, offering not just a garment or textile but a reminder of the dialogue between tradition, experimentation, and individuality.”
