Music at Port Milford

Music at Port Milford Nonprofit Summer Academy & Festival

Established in 1987, Music at Port Milford offers an intensive four-week chamber music experience for serious string players and pianists, on an historic thirty-five acre farm in rural Prince Edward County, Ontario. The focused, cooperative atmosphere allows students to produce refined weekly performances of chamber, choral, and orchestral works. The outstanding music faculty, including The Tokai

Celebrating 40 years of music and community!!! Last weekend, 25 MPM alumni gathered on campus to ring in our 40th summer season by making music, repainting cabins, gardening, building foundations for new practice cabins, sharing wishes by the campfire, and talking about the future of MPM. The shared generosity, goodwill, and warmth were extraordinary. Thank you, all!

To our many alums - we are so proud of all the music you are making and the communities you are nurturing. Stay in touch. We’ll catch you at the next one!

With a few more spots available in both Junior and Senior Session this summer, we wanted to let our community know that there are 5 more days for new applicants to submit need-based financial aid forms! 📋🎶

Since its founding in 1987, Music at Port Milford has been committed to keeping costs as low as possible without compromising the quality of our program. It is integral to our mission that all deserving young musicians be given the opportunity to attend MPM regardless of financial means.

What does that look like in numbers?
- MPM’s tuition fees are between 30% and 50% lower than other summer chamber music programs.
- 35% of program costs are covered grants and donations from alumni, friends of MPM, local businesses and corporations.
- Our year-round staff is small (2 paid staff, plus a dedicated slate of volunteers). This allows us to offer the unparalleled student-teacher ratio of 2.5:1 in the summer.
- On average, 30% of MPM students receive some form of need-based financial aid each summer.

Thank you in advance for spreading the word, and for your ongoing support of MPM!

Early Bird Applications for MPM’s 40th Summer Chamber Academy due today! While MPM continues to process applications on a rolling basis as space allows, we recommend that all interested students apply by the end of today. Plus, an automatic early bird tuition discount is applied 😎🎶

Reason # 10: Not sure yet? Let’s ask MPM students! Last year, we sent out a poll to current students and alums, asking what prospective students should know about MPM. Here were their answers:

👩🏻‍❤️‍👩🏽 “You’ll meet friends who will change your life, and mentors who will change the path of your career!”

3 more days to apply early bird for MPM’s 40th summer academy! 🗓️🎻🎹

Reason # 8 to apply today: With no more than 40 students on campus at a time, MPM’s student body feels like a family. Everyone looks out for each other, and everyone cheers each other on. All students gather 6 times a day - for three meals, orchestra rehearsal, choir rehearsal, and evening activities coordinated by staff. Within days, there are seemingly infinite joys and jokes shared among the student body.

4 more days!! String players and pianists, ages 10-19: apply for Music at Port Milford 2026 by March 1st to receive an early bird tuition discount 🎻🎹☀️

Reasons to apply for MPM - # 7: With help from a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors, the Hill family has thoughtfully and passionately managed MPM for the past four decades. Founded by Meg Hill and her mother Doris in 1987, MPM is now co-directed by Meg and her daughter Charlotte - both accomplished chamber musicians and pedagogues. Meg and Charlotte attentively make sure every students’ time at MPM is inspiring, healthy, and musically enriching. Oliver Hill, a composer, arranger, and teacher, directs the student choir for one week each summer. Behind the scenes, Dave Hill helps with countless admin and financial puzzles, and Emily Hill helps with communications.

One alum described the experience of being welcomed by the Hills, and by all of the MPM staff:

“Without the home you provided me the experience would not have been nearly as great. By ‘home’ I don’t mean just the wonderful house you shared, but more importantly, the comfort and warmth that I always felt.” 🌾🎶

5 more days to apply for MPM 2026 and receive an early bird tuition discount! 🗓️✅ For the countdown, we are sharing ten (of the many!) reasons to apply for MPM.

Reason # 6: MPM students are welcomed into a network of accomplished alumni spanning four decades. Our alums are award-winning chamber musicians, principal players in major orchestras, pioneering arts administrators, vital community builders, and more.

Many alumni are still a part of the MPM summer community, too! Pictured above is Paul Casey, a violist in .cna orchestra and principal of the viola section. He is a member of our 2026 Junior Summer Academy’s artist faculty, returning for a third year to mentor the next generation 🎻☀️

In addition to the many musicians that return as faculty, over 50% of MPM’s Board of Directors are proud alums. Many alumni also send their students to MPM, and others donate monthly to sustain the organization. Thank you, alums, for all you do to keep the magic alive on South Bay!

As a quick aside - all alumni are invited for a special 40th anniversary reunion weekend at Port Milford, May 16-18! Save the dates, and pop us a DM if you want more details!!

6 more days to submit early bird applications from MPM’s 40th summer season! 🎻 🎹 🌊🌿

Junior Session (Ages 10-13): July 5-July 11
Senior Session (Ages 13-19): July 12-Aug 2

Reason # 5 to apply today: On our beautiful campus in , students and artist faculty are immersed in community and music-making without distraction, keeping their phones and tablets inside the main farmhouse. After dinner, students are free to stop by the house to check in with loved ones, but are otherwise present with their MPM collaborators. Students are encouraged to pack watches, tuners, metronomes, and alarm clocks for daily use. This gives our students more time and energy for practicing, rehearsing, enjoying nature, and making friends! ☀️🎶

7 more days to apply early bird for MPM 2026! MPM brings together dedicated music students, ages 10-19, with outstanding faculty and resident ensembles to create an inspiring chamber music academy and festival each summer.

Reason # 4 to apply today: In addition to our celebrated education programs, MPM presents an Artist Chamber Music Series throughout our summer season. Concerts feature MPM’s faculty artists, providing an exciting opportunity for students to see their extraordinary mentors in action. Senior Session tuition includes transportation and tickets to each concert, and Junior Session faculty present an on campus performance for students 🚌🎟️🎶
