Pickering Garden Club Also known as the Pickering Horticultural Society. You’re never too ‘green’ to join. We are novices and experienced gardeners.

The Pickering Horticultural Society also known as the Pickering Garden Club is a non-profit group whose members share a passion for growing plants of all kinds and for beautifying our community. Bring your questions, find solutions, and get inspired. Whether your interest is growing food, floral design, or using the colours and textures of plants to beautify your home, join us! We meet once a month to learn the art and science of gardening together. We offer dynamic speakers and workshops, we share plants and seeds, and we gain knowledge from each other.

Tuesday couldn’t have been better for getting the Dragon Wing Begonias and Potato Vines into the Nautical Village planter. This year we switched things up by alternating the planters - one red and one white. Thanks so much to everyone who came out — your help made all the difference.

Most gardeners treat their lilac as a spring event. It blooms, you bury your face in it, it finishes, you move on until next May.
That's the part where next year's blooms get quietly decided.
The window between the last faded flower and the moment next spring's buds begin forming is narrow — a few weeks at most. There's a specific task that needs doing right now, while the spent flowers are still on the shrub. Miss it and you won't know until next May. There's also one thing most people do with an overgrown lilac that seems completely logical — and costs them years of blooms in one afternoon.
