Scientists in School

Scientists in School Scientists in School is a leading Canadian charity dedicated to sparking children's interest in STEM.

At the heart of Scientists in School's work are our award-winning, inquiry-based workshops for Kindergarten through Grade 8 students. With Scientists in School, students become scientists in their school and are able to see, touch and do science using specialized equipment and materials, all under the guidance of real science experts from their communities.

Book now for July and beyond!

Discover what happens when science meets art! Explore perception as you use shadows, colour, motion, and light to create art from science. You’ll make a puppet, a spinning top and a kaleidoscope, as well as design your own galaxy. https://scientistsinschool.ca/workshop/science-meets-art/

One classroom took their Scientists in School learnings several steps further than we could have dreamed: they nurtured their Get the Dirt on Plants corn kernels into seedlings.

June is Corn Month, something we’ve come to appreciate after we heard this incredible story from a teacher we got to meet. Read more about their experience growing popcorn, and happy Corn Month! https://scientistsinschool.ca/get-the-dirt-on-popcorn/

Our classroom workshop topic Strong Structures introduces young learners to structural strength, turning them into budding engineers-in-training! Students will discover how to design a structure that can withstand multiple forces through hands-on discovery and testing.

Strong Structures is available online for Grade 3 classes in both English in French in the following provinces: Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and PEI.

Family Science programming is for kids with their grown-ups!

We send mini science bags for each kid so they can follow along with a scientist, getting help from their grown-ups as they go through the experiments and discoveries.

Family Science brings your school community together with hands-on, exploratory science!

This programming is great for a family day, lunch and learn, after school fun fair, or any time you bring your students’ adults into the school to experience learning with their children.

For decades, the support of dedicated partners has helped inspire curiosity, confidence, and a love of STEM in children and youth across Canada. Today, we are incredibly grateful to celebrate the continuation of that impact through a new three-year grant from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

This investment will help even more young people experience hands-on STEM learning opportunities that spark curiosity, build critical thinking skills, and open doors to future careers in science and engineering.

Long-time supporters like NSERC make it possible for students to see themselves as future scientists, engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers. Thank you for believing in the power of STEM education and in the limitless potential of youth in Canada.
