The Battle of Ridgeway in June 1866 was Canada’s first modern battle and where Canadian soldiers first fell in combat fighting for Canada. Yet the battle was completely forgotten by the 20th century and no major book had been written about it since 1910, until Peter Vronsky made it the subject of his doctoral dissertation at the University of Toronto in 2010, which Penguin Books published. See Vronsky’s website: www.ridgewaybattle.ca.
