Are you looking for a way to acknowledge June as National Indigenous History month?

The City of Peterborough has put together a list of events happening across the city this month. Check it out!

June is National Indigenous History Month. Events that explore Indigenous history, stories and teachings are taking place throughout the month at locations across the city: https://ow.ly/QPC950Z6KA8
“National Indigenous History Month is an important opportunity to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, traditions and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples,” said Mayor Jeff Leal. “Throughout the month, residents are encouraged to take part in the learning opportunities taking place across Peterborough. These events help foster greater understanding, reflection and connection, while recognizing the enduring strength and leadership of Indigenous communities.”

Check out this awesome event that Council for Persons with Disabilities is hosting at Quaker Park this Saturday from 10am until 2pm.

Will you be attending?

– We’re grateful to our friends Council for Persons with Disabilities for again organizing this Saturday (June 6) from 10 am to 2 pm at Quaker Foods City Square (215 Charlotte St.) right next to the downtown farmers’ market.

The 5th annual event is free and a place where people can hear directly from members of the community about what helps, what gets in the way and what inclusion can look like in everyday life. This year’s event includes interactive experiences and activities throughout the day – and Five Counties is thrilled to be among the organizations taking part in Capable Con.

Come join us for this celebration of accessibility + inclusion! We hope to see you here!

Brain injury affects millions of Canadians — yet too many individuals and families still face gaps in care, education, research, and support. This Brain Injury Awareness Month, we’re calling for a national strategy that puts people first. 🧠💙

Better data means better care.
More education means fewer missed diagnoses.
More research means stronger recovery outcomes.
And stronger systems mean less caregiver fatigue and burnout.

It’s time to make brain injury a national priority. Join us in raising awareness, advocating for change, and supporting individuals living with brain injury across Canada.💙

June is Brain Injury Awareness Month 🧠💙

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Brain Injury and bringing awareness to the impacts of brain injury. In Canada, children and young adults experience some of the highest rates of brain injury and concussion. Recovery can take time, and awareness, visibility, and support matter.

Together, we can create safer environments, support recovery, and raise awareness for both brain injury supports and the ranging impacts of brain injury.

Join the campaign. Become an advocate. Raise awareness. 💙

To support Brain Injury Awareness Month, follow along as we share important facts and raise awareness about brain injury. Please share our posts to help us make a greater impact. 💙

This June, as we mark Brain Injury Awareness Month and National Indigenous History Month, we honor the rich history, diverse cultures, and resilience of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We also recognize the critical need for culturally safe brain injury support. 🍁🧠

Indigenous communities face disproportionately high rates of Acquired Brain Injuries (ABI) due to systemic inequities, geographical barriers to specialized care, and intergenerational trauma. Healing from a brain injury isn't just a physical process—it is deeply tied to community, culture, and spirit.

Standard healthcare models often overlook Indigenous holistic health perspectives. True allyship means listening to Indigenous voices, supporting community-led healing initiatives, and advocating for care that respects and integrates traditional knowledge and practices.

This month, let's commit to learning, unlearning, and building pathways to equitable, culturally safe care for all Indigenous brain injury survivors. 🧡

At BIAPR, June is a profoundly meaningful month as we recognize both Brain Injury Awareness Month and Pride Month. 🌈🧠

BIAPR celebrates the diverse identities, voices, and resilience of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. In doing so, we must also underscore the invisible intersection where identity meets brain injury recovery.

Consider these critical ABI facts:

🧠An Invisible Reality: An Acquired Brain Injury can completely alter a person's physical, emotional, and cognitive reality—often resulting in profound social isolation and a loss of livelihood.

🧠The Layered Barrier: For 2SLGBTQIA+ survivors, navigating standard rehabilitation, medical systems, and community spaces can add a heavy layer of stress if those environments lack inclusive or gender-affirming care.

🧠Recovery Demands Authenticity: Healing from an ABI requires an immense amount of energy. No survivor should have to expend extra energy hiding who they are just to feel safe receiving support.

True advocacy means acknowledging that brain injuries do not discriminate, but access to safe, understanding care can fluctuate.

This June, BIAPR is proud to celebrate Pride and commit to fostering spaces where acceptance, equitable support, and authentic recovery go hand-in-hand.Because everyone deserves a safe space to heal.
