We want to take a moment to highlight the work of one of our Tool Library members: Lakefield Animal Welfare Society

LAWS is a nonprofit whose mission is to champion the welfare of animals through refuge and shelter. As a nonprofit ourselves, we understand the need to make the most of your resources, and we're thrilled to see how LAWS uses the Kawartha Tool Library to support their work. Whether it's a need for yard and garden tools to transform their gardens into a beautiful pollinator habitat, or some extra canopies for their Doggie Dash fundraising event, using the Tool Library allows LAWS to dedicate more of its budget and space toward providing animals a loving and compassionate future.

Drywalling? Plastering? Tiling? Don't panic and bring a trowel!

If you've got drywalling, plastering, tiling, flooring or masonry projects, a trowel is about the most massively useful thing a DIY handyperson can have - but make sure it's the right one for the job!

When you need a trowel, you usually need a very specific trowel; and that's what makes a tool library membership ideal. If you're doing some tiling, you'll need a notched trowel, but rather than buy one and have it gather dust indefinitely after your project is finished, just borrow ours!

You’ve got a project. We’ve got the tools. How do you know what tools you need for your project?

If you need to cut some wood, you’ll need a saw; but depending on how you need it cut, some types of saw will do a better (and safer) job!

Thank you to all who joined us on Saturday for the grand opening of our new Kawartha Tool Library location in Lindsay! We are extraordinarily grateful to City of Kawartha Lakes councillors Dan Joyce, Mark Doble, and Charlie McDonald, who were joined by Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region board member Corey Norman and longtime tool library volunteer Ken to cut the ribbon on our new community sharing hub within the Lindsay Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

This event also allowed Habitat PKR CEO Susan Zambonin to highlight the people whose generosity made this new tool library possible: RONA Lindsay , for their donation of a brand new DeWalt table saw and other hand tools to the tool library inventory, and the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada for the grant which allowed us to expand to an additional location in Lindsay.

The Kawartha Tool Library is now open in both Lindsay and Peterborough! Thanks to everyone who has become a member already.

This , we would like to express an enormous amount of appreciation for the Tool Library's superstar volunteer Ken. As we prepare for the grand opening of the new Lindsay location of the Kawartha Tool Library this Saturday, it is safe to say that the ongoing success of the tool library that has allowed for this growth wouldn't have happened without Ken. He was volunteering with the Tool Library before Habitat for Humanity took over its operation from the Endeavour Centre in 2022. A retired machinist, Ken's knowledge and experience has been an incredible asset to the tool library.

As the tool library grows, we are always seeking additional volunteers (Ken is amazing, but he is still only one person!). Get in touch if you're interested in volunteering at the Kawartha Tool Library in either Lindsay or Peterborough.
