The 49th Regiment a Foot, Grenadier Company is a Historical Reenactment Group based around the Peterborough Area of Southern Ontario, Canada. We depict British Regular Infantry as they would have appeared during the War of 1812. Our group specifically portrays the Grenadier Company of the 49th Hertfordshire Regiment, a British unit that was stationed in Canada throughout the entire war. Our goal i
s to educate the public about the military tactics and life of the British regular soldier in the War of 1812. We also aim to generate an interest to anyone who wishes to get into the historical reenactment hobby. Our group was formed in the late 1990’s and we have been actively participating in War of 1812 reenactments ever since. We attend events all across Southern Ontario, usually in the Niagara Peninsula, but also in the London, Cornwall and Georgian Bay regions. We also attend larger events in the United States, although these events are not as frequent. As 2012 to 2015 marks the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812, our group will be particularly active over the course of these years. We will be attending all major Bicentennial events throughout 2012 to 2015, culminating in our attendance in the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo in Belgium in June of 2015.
