In the spring, Otonabee Conservation monitors water quality by collecting benthic samples throughout the Otonabee Region as part of our Watershed Health Monitoring Program. Benthic macroinvertebrates (benthics) are insects often in their larval stage that live in the bottom of rivers, creeks, and lakes. They are indicators of long-term water quality because they have different levels of pollution tolerance. Information gathered through this program is published every 5 years in our Watershed Report Card.
