OPSEU Local 351 joins our colleagues from OPSEU Local 352 Fleming Faculty in expressing our deepest condolences to Julia’s family, friends and colleagues at this time. 😢

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Julia Scarlett.

Julia was a dedicated faculty member at the Frost Campus. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, vivacious spirit, and enthusiasm and energy. Her bright personality and spirited presence were a valued part of the campus community.

Julia's years of dedication to her students and colleagues made a lasting impact, and her absence will be deeply felt by those who had the opportunity to know and work alongside her.

We offer our deepest condolences to Julia's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. May the memories of her warmth, laughter, and vibrant spirit bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

Local 351 is proud to sponsor the United Way Peterborough & District Backpack for Success program again this year.

Stewards Carmen Gelette and Nicole Grady spent time today helping pack the backpacks in preparation for Peterborough area students this fall.

Last night OPSEU Local 351 our local held a special GMM to discuss supports for the locals that have been on strike or locked out for over 11 weeks across the province.

Our membership truly took this year's convention theme to heart and voted to contribute $9000 to strike hardship funds divided amongst the impacted locals in OPSEU Region 3.

There fight is our fight!

We wish everyone ongoing strength on the line and for those returning to work, as we know personal financial recovery from a prolonged strike is hard.

We strongly encourage other OPSEU locals and Unions to follow suit and to continue supporting these workers across the province.

Today, members of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 351 stand in solidarity with the community service workers in our community and across the province who are entering their 5th week on strike.

Five weeks is a milestone we know all too well. Last fall, our own members walked the picket lines for five long weeks, experiencing the uncertainty, financial strain, and emotional toll that comes with standing up for fairness and respect at work. We also experienced the incredible strength that comes from solidarity.

To every worker on the line: we see your determination, your courage, and your commitment to the people and communities you serve. The services you provide matter, and so do the workers who deliver them.

As we learned during our own strike, solidarity is more than a slogan, it is the belief that no worker should have to stand alone. Local 351 is with you as you continue your fight for a fair agreement.

Stay strong. Stay united. Your struggle is worth fighting for, and your labour family is behind you every step of the way.
