This weekend, our members from the CAAT-S PT unit are at the Pre-Bargaining Conference. Pre-bargaining is where we start drawing a line in the sand. Where we say: enough of treating essential labour as optional labour!

Behind every “part-time” label is a person juggling multiple jobs, unstable hours, and the constant pressure of precarity that institutions have normalized for too long. That’s not flexibility. That’s structural underinvestment in labour, and it shows up in real lives, every single day.

Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU)/SEFPO is proud to have 5 of our CAAT-S PT members at the conference, prepared to bring their priorities, lived realities, and collective strength into the bargaining process.

Thank you, L-R: Deb, Cole, Tanya, Heaven and Carmen (attending virtually) for your commitment to our part-time members!

We are WORTH FIGHTING FOR.

Workers in community and social services are taking a stand - for ourselves, for each other, and for the people who rely on these services every day.

Because stolen wages aren’t an accident. They’re the result of political choices that continue to undervalue care work - work still done overwhelmingly by women.

We’re fighting for justice.
We’re fighting for properly funded services.
We’re fighting for a future where this work is respected—and paid accordingly.

Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) is proud to support the Worth Fighting For campaign.

Today, more than 100 people showed up in Peterborough:
🔹College workers from across the province.
🔹Members from every level of education.
🔹Students, workers, community.

Different roles and different institutions with one clear message: we see what’s happening, and we’re pushing back!

Because the cuts we’re facing aren’t isolated. They’re connected.
From K–12 to colleges to universities, public education is being chipped away, program by program, job by job, while we’re told to call it “pressure” and move on.

We’re not moving on.

Today was loud, visible and Collective. But this isn’t a one-day issue. It’s an ongoing fight, for accessible education, for stable jobs, for communities that don’t get hollowed out by political decisions made behind closed doors.

To everyone who came out, who travelled, who stood shoulder to shoulder - THANK YOU!

This is what solidarity looks like. And we’re just getting started.

Today, Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) /SEFPO marks the National Day of Mourning.

We remember workers who never made it home, and those living with injuries, both visible and invisible.

This year, we name what too often gets ignored: psychological harm is workplace harm. Burnout, harassment, and trauma aren’t “part of the job”, they’re injuries shaped by power and tolerated by systems that put productivity over people.

We mourn. And we organize.

Every worker deserves to come home safe - body and mind intact.

An empty classroom isn’t just a room.

It’s cancelled programs.
It’s workers pushed out.
It’s students shut out of opportunities they were promised.

This is what cuts look like.

And here in Peterborough, it’s not hypothetical.
We’re seeing it across K–12, at Trent, and now with the looming integration of Fleming College with St. Lawrence College.

This is how public education gets dismantled, quietly, incrementally, until one day there’s more empty space than opportunity.

We don’t accept that.

Show up. Be visible. Wear red or purple.
Bring your coworkers, your classmates, your community.

Because empty classrooms don’t happen by accident.
They’re the result of political choices.

And those choices can be challenged.

This is what dismantling looks like. Not abstract. Not theoretical. Right here in Peterborough.

➡️ Cuts across K–12.
➡️ Deep cuts at Trent.
➡️ And now the integration of Fleming College with St. Lawrence College, putting jobs, programs, and access on the line.

These aren’t isolated decisions. They’re part of a broader agenda that treats public education as expendable, and expects us to accept it quietly.

We won’t.
