Service Dogs do more than provide comfort.

Psychiatric Service Dogs are individually trained to perform tasks that mitigate disability-related challenges. Depending on the handler's needs, those tasks might include interrupting nightmares, retrieving essential items, or helping a handler navigate specific situations, and more. Program dog Genny demonstrates one way to help her handler in a busy line up.

Their work is intentional, individualized, and far more complex than simply being a comforting presence.

Today we recognize the private donors and supporters who have generously sponsored new puppies joining the program, School Backpacks for program pups heading to school, and helped ensure that every one of our program dogs has the tools they need to succeed.

Today's thank you goes out to the local small businesses who support our work by educating their teams, providing gift cards and discounts to our teams, welcoming our pups in training, and inviting us as guest speakers to help foster discussions about disabilities and how community helps. We are all stronger, together, because of small acts of community service like this.

A huge thank you goes out to all our volunteers who Foster a program pup, assist at events, handle pups for training classes, assist with facility maintenance and help ensure our program dogs have the biggest, loving family possible. They say it takes a village, but we're lucky enough to have a Valley!
