Caring for Cam

Caring for Cam Two parents building a legacy for our late son, Cameron, who fought hard against childhood cancer

When Cam was 4 years old, he was diagnosed with an extremely rare type of childhood cancer - Stage 4 Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor. Because of Cam's age at diagnosis and the way the tumor presented itself, Cam's prognosis wasn't very good and the treatment options were minimal. After just under 6 months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, Cam passed away from multiple complications, having contrac

ted fungal pneumonia because his body had become too weak from the cancer treatment. Cam's parents (Amy and Pres) created an endowment fund - called the Cameron Lavier Memorial Endowment Fund - at the CHEO Foundation at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa. The fund has been designed to support research endeavors for new cancer treatments for kids with hard and rare tumors and also to help other families looking for help getting to and from treatment options and supporting them with finances. Since its inception in 2018, the Caring for Cam events have raised over $50,000 over a number of fundraising efforts and Cam's story has helped raise awareness of childhood cancer.
