Stigma can show up in many ways, and even small moments of misunderstanding can have an impact.

Sometimes it appears through assumptions, comments, or judgments about addiction and recovery. These moments can make it harder for people to feel understood, supported, or comfortable sharing their experiences.

For those facing stigma, remembering your worth, staying connected to supportive people, and continuing to focus on your recovery can help you move forward.

For the rest of us, creating change starts with how we listen, how we speak, and how we respond. Choosing understanding over judgment helps build a community where people feel respected and supported.

Recovery is a journey, and everyone deserves to be met with dignity and compassion.

This past weekend, some of the guys from Discovery House hit the KVR trail for an awesome mountain biking adventure!

A huge thank you to Hoodoo Adventure Company for helping make this experience possible. The guys had a fantastic time getting outdoors, challenging themselves, sharing some laughs, and enjoying a beautiful Okanagan day together.

Recovery is about more than staying substance-free — it’s also about rediscovering connection, adventure, and healthy ways to have fun. Experiences like this are a great reminder that life in recovery can be full of new adventures.

Thank you, Hoodoo Adventures, for supporting our guys and their recovery journeys!

Today, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

It is a day to honour Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the ongoing impacts of this history on Indigenous communities.

Reconciliation requires listening, learning, and continuing the work of understanding the experiences and perspectives of Indigenous Peoples.

At Discovery House, we recognize that healing takes time. We honour the strength, resilience, and wisdom of Indigenous communities and remain committed to creating a community built on respect, compassion, and understanding.

Today, we remember. We reflect. We continue learning.

Some days, believing in yourself feels easier than others.

Recovery is a journey made up of many moments: the choices you make, the steps you take, and the effort you put in along the way.

Keep taking the next step. Progress isn’t always measured by one big moment, but by the many small steps that help shape your journey.

Giving back can be part of the recovery journey.

At Discovery House, participants have opportunities to get involved in community service, volunteer with local organizations and events, and take part in supervised recovery outreach.

These experiences offer a chance to build confidence, take on responsibility, develop new skills, and connect with the community in meaningful ways.

Recovery isn't only about personal growth. It can also be about finding purpose, contributing to something bigger, and discovering new ways to give back. Learn more: https://tinyurl.com/bkas9daa
