When people think about recovery, they often picture counselling sessions or support groups. What they don't always picture is a paintbrush, a journal, or a guitar. Yet creative expression has become an increasingly recognized part of recovery because it offers something many people struggle to find: a healthy way to process difficult emotions without having to explain every feeling in words.

Creativity isn't about artistic ability. It's about creating space to reflect, build confidence, reduce stress, and reconnect with personal strengths that may have been buried for years.

Sometimes healing starts with a conversation. Sometimes it starts with a blank page. Learn more about our creativity and self expression sessions by reaching out to us! 👉 https://tinyurl.com/bdfrpzj4

Every overdose is someone's unfinished story. Someone's dad. Someone's son. Someone's best friend. Someone who made people laugh. That's what makes overdose so devastating.

It doesn't only take a life. It interrupts birthdays, conversations, plans, second chances. International Overdose Awareness Day isn't about statistics. It's about remembering the people behind them. It's also about the people who are still here.

The ones choosing recovery. The ones trying again. The ones quietly fighting battles most people never see.

If today reminds you of someone you've lost, we're thinking of you. If today reminds you of yourself, we're glad you're still here. 💜

One of the hardest parts of addiction is feeling like your life belongs to something else.

Recovery is about taking it back. Not all at once, just one decision at a time. A recovery plan isn't a list of rules. It's a reminder that your future doesn't have to be decided by your past. Every small choice becomes another step toward the life you're building.

And those small choices add up. Take a look at these 4 tips to help you start building your recovery plan. And if you need some support, we’re here for you 👉 https://tinyurl.com/bdfrpzj4

Come say hi to the Discovery House crew at the Penticton Market today!

Our guys are out enjoying the sunshine, connecting with the community, and sharing a little about what we do at Discovery House.

If you’re downtown, stop by the booth, say hello, and show your support for helping men reclaim their lives.

Considering treatment is often the hardest part. Taking that first step forward is easier when you know what to expect. At Discovery House, recovery starts with structure. Daily routine, peer support, and a program built around real accountability, not quick fixes. Our residents move through a minimum 90-day program, extendable up to one year, because sustainable change takes the time it takes.

Alongside recovery, residents rebuild the fundamentals: employment, relationships, purpose, and the daily habits that support long-term stability. Our peer-based approach means you're supported by people who understand the path firsthand. If you or someone you know is ready to take that step, we're here to help.

I am sober today because…

Maybe it’s because someone believed in you when you weren’t sure you could believe in yourself.

Maybe it’s because you wanted to be present for the people you love.

Maybe it’s because you found support, discovered a new sense of purpose, or chose to give yourself another chance.

Every recovery journey has a story behind it. A person, a moment, a decision, or a reason to keep moving forward.

For some, it’s rebuilding relationships.
For some, it’s finding peace.
For some, it’s learning to take life one day at a time.

Whatever the reason, every step forward is worth recognizing.

Recovery is not about one perfect moment: it’s about the many choices, connections, and experiences that shape the journey. Why are you choosing sobriety today? Drop your reason in the comments: your story might be the exact encouragement someone else needs to hear.

A small contribution can become part of someone’s recovery journey.

This September, our Annual Golf Tournament and Harvest Online Auction bring together our community in support of recovery at Discovery House.

We’re inviting local businesses and community members to donate items for our Harvest Online Auction, running September 15 through mid-October.

Whether it’s a gift card, service, experience, or product, your donation helps raise funds for recovery programming at Discovery House while showcasing the generosity of our community.

The men in our program are doing the work of rebuilding their lives. Community support helps them continue moving forward.

If you’re interested in donating an auction item or learning more, we’d love to hear from you.
