09/01/2026

way' PIB & snpink'tn campers on the channel and skaha beach. Slow movers, check on them in the morning, will get FN Rcmp Involved if necessary. Cleaned a big mess on the beach, must have been some party, clean up after yourselves!
Went up and checked on the owls, roads are damp enough for now. Saw 8 of the 10, pretty cool, hard to get photos. Lots of vole mounds so the birds are eating well.
Then I had to say goodbye to an old friend. A 300+ year old Ponderosa Pine that was culturally modified likely a trail marker. The Bald Range fire took her, i think I measured her at just over 19ft DBH, ( diameter at breast height)
New growth coming up in a burned out riperian area.

way' PIB & snpink'tn river channel was all good, Green Mtn rd not so much, somebody left a king size mattress up west from Westhills rd. We picked it up and our Public Works will haul to the dump with their trailer, lim limpt.
Camper in the oxbows, we flattened and piled the stuff, left an eviction notice.
Got a message about a doe with a broken leg, found her, she is with her ancestors now. People watch were you are driving.
Went out to Faulder and onto Fish lk rd, checked on an arch site, fire ravaged the area. Left some potential culturally modified trees.
New growth coming up already, love nature and how strong it is.
Had a visitor last night during the eclipse, snina, owl.

way' PIB & snpink'tn well we went after some low hanging trees along the channel, it was quick and easy, cleaned up along the path with loopers. Trash came next, kept us fairly busy. Camper by Fairview bridge moved along.
Had a report of 2 Bighorn Rams on the highway at vasaux, went down there never seen the sheep but fixed a hole in the fence somebody cut. Syn'klip has a path under the fence, left that alone.
Drove Marron, stopped at the grandfather Ponderosa Pine tree, spring is still flowing.
We cleaned up 200ft of barb wire there and took care of a few tee-posts that were broke off 2 inches above ground level. Make it safe for timx to use the water available.
Picked up more trash along Green Mtn rd. There is a rock in the creek near the S-turns, has a bush growing from it, really resilient.

way' PIB & snpink'tn, last few days have been a constant picking up trash. Lots of beer cans. Marron Valley is always good, seemed to find a few monster drink cans out on Shingle creek rd which was recently repaired. Hate to think the contractors out there are littering. Lots of beer cans near a mail box upper village. A couple piles of wood we will need to clean up when the bush is a little more safe to travel in.
Horses are well out behind Summerland, saw some mule deer off old airport rd. One shopping cart returned.

way' PIB & snpink'tn not to sound like a broken record but trash has been minimal which is good! We walked on skaha beach, seems people fishing are the worst right now. Lots of ash washed ashore.
Eagles in a big Pine tree, horses on Old Airport rd. Drove Marron Valley rd and past Charlie lk, it sure is low.
Went to the sheep pens, did a fire watch as the volunteers park at pen #1, its all trampled down and really safe but doesn't hurt to be there with suppression equipment. They have a water tank there as well.
Toured the villages, oxbows all is well.
Had a close call this morning Starz got chased by a pair of adult coyotes which I managed to break up their hunt. We then watched the yotes chase a German Shepherd that was with a groomer on the Penticton Golf course, they are aggressive right now, maybe low on food? We are monitoring this closely. Young cinnamon bear around the stables as well.

way' PIB & snpink'tn, our day started with... you guessed it, trash by the Eckhardt bridge. Looks like stolen stuff, un-opened pop, Gatorade and chips, maybe the heat was on them and they ditched the stuff? Then we get a break and scoop a river photo, no fish in the water. South part of the channel we are burdened with 2 bags of trash, the fello in the field said they were not his, hmmm... we can't leave it, dog or coyotes will make a mess. Filled in where a guy was sleeping last Friday, he carries a shovel. Saw syn'klip along the KVR and the best part of the day was at the bands ball field. Looks like a wildie horse was scratching their rump on the bleachers and did a p**p, lol. Probably to throw off the opposing herds game! Drove Marron valley, hyw 3a, westbench area, (love the water bladders and pumps set up) upper and lower villages. Somebody riding a quad in the fields along the channel? Full of road ban for a reason, please respect that.

way' PIB & snpink'tn thought it might be a calmer day but dealt with trash and the less fortunate again. Found a camp South of Nissan in the field, lim limpt for the tip from a person who walks the channel regularly. River has a lot of ash in it. Still somebody puts food near the road on Green Mtn rd, we left them a note.
Checked 3a and Marron again all is fine there. Spooky with the tall grasses and people camping in them. We did some spot fire watch as well.

way' PIB & snpink'tn yesterday I worked noon to 8pm, try something different. An old camp north of town, yes there is a camp still there but not on band land. Trash on the channel and Old Airport Road. Had some homeless under PIB bridge, they were just chilling in the shade.
Today did our patrols, looks like Sun Leisure folks dumping concrete and Rose bushes on the channel, do better please.
Drove Marron Valley saw the beautiful bone face stud, usually he is shy.
We drove Shingle creek rd and hiked a bit, big Ole dead pine tree and a funky tree in a dip.
Checked the dam, no fish to report, got a cool photo of a fly fisherman.

August 5th 2026 The Okanagan Guardians started the day by going to Garnet Valley Road to access the Fur Brigade Trail. We saw a hiker there. We found 2 dead Racoons on the last part of our patrol there. We saw birds but no big animals. We Then went to Hardy Falls and seen some of the stream rehab they are doing there. It is a great project. We then went to Monroe FSR. We saw 2 people on a quad. They were being very careful. We then went to Darke Lake. We saw a person checking the water level there. He said it was the lowest he ever saw it. We found nothing to report there. We went to Wiltse Highlands and never saw any big animals just birds. We didnt see any hikers out today. We found nothing to report. It was a great day on the Land.
