Pender Islands Museum The museum is in a 1908 home that was once home to the Roesland Resort. Located on North Pender Island in the Gulf Islands National Park.

Admission is by donation. Hours:

Open Thursday through Sunday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, all summer long. Open outside these hours for groups of usually 6 or more by special request.

Museum open today, Sunday and Thanksgiving Day 1-4pm. This weekend marks the close of a memorable, busy season. Since Easter, we've welcomed over 3,200 visitors, including 25 group tours (and they're still coming), and connected various families with their Pender roots. All thanks to our wonderful volunteers!

And we're not quite done yet. Watch for special open days--just for locals--during the Otter Bay terminal closure Nov 20-24. And we plan to be back for our popular “5 Days of Christmas“ event Dec 26-30.

From time to time the museum receives old photos that make us sit up and take notice. This one came from “Angela" who will soon be moving to Pender. But she's not entirely new to the island because she has this adorable photo of herself at age 6 standing in front of the carved doors on Bert & Irene Roe's home at Roesland. Originally built in 1927, the house was pretty much derelict when it was torn down in the mid-2000s. The stone “steps to nowhere“ are all that remain. Well, not quite! The museum rescued the folk art doors and they now live on the museum porch.

To enjoy Pender's past, be sure to visit the museum this Saturday or Sunday from 1-4pm. Have a seat on the comfy couch in the bay window and spend a little time looking at old photos and a book on Pender's heritage buildings. Admission by donation. Accessible parking and washrooms available down the laneway by the museum entrance.

Wednesday marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Museum visitors often express an interest in learning more about the island's Indigenous history. This summer, we drafted a self-guided tour brochure to direct visitors to Indigenous informational panels on SDÁ,YES.

The pamphlet is out for Elder review, but in honour of this important day, we encourage you to do your own tour. The museum is closed, but the other locations are readily accessible: Community Hall signage; cairns at the Canal site; the 13-Moon Calendar at the Church of the Good Shepherd, and the interpretive panels on the shoreline below Poets Cove. So much to learn and discover!

The museum thanks our faithful volunteers who allow us to stay open Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4pm until Thanksgiving Day. We've been busy with bus and cycling tours mid-week, but always ready to welcome locals during regular open times.

Hello Museum FB followers: This is a post to give credit where credit is due! You always see my name on these posts, and for much of the year, that's true. But that was NOT the case this past summer when our talented museum assistant, Lydia, was writing them.

What would our volunteer organizations do without summer students? They bring new perspectives and ideas, help whittle down the job jar, and push our ability to take advantage of technologies.

Even while I was away in Sept and Lydia was back in Europe at university, the scheduled posts continued to appear. The response to these promos helped bring our museum visitation to 3,000 as of last week. That's great for a small island museum. We're still open 1-4pm until Sat, Sun & holiday Mon until Thanksgiving Day on October 12. Thank you for bringing along your visiting family and friends.

Grab a seat! What’s more Canadian than sitting in a waiting room? Luckily, we had women like Olive Auchterlonie, who generously offered her home, plus tea and coffee, to patients on “Doctor’s Day” in the early 1960s.
