Craft Night at Renfrew Public Library! ✂️

Celebrate Latin American Heritage Month with a creative hands-on craft session open to all ages at the Renfrew Public Library! The term "Aztec sundial" usually refers to the famous Aztec Sun Stone (also called the Calendar Stone), though it is not actually a sundial or a clock!!!

Learn more about how the sundial was used, where and create one on your own.
Ages 7-13

📜 Preserve Your Story. Dig Into Your Roots Archival Session

Did you know? Arnprior was founded at the convergence of the Madawaska and Ottawa Rivers, quickly becoming a thriving 19th-century timber town driven by the historic McLachlin Lumber Mill.

This fall, in partnership with the Arnprior/McNab Braeside Archives, participate in Dig Into Your Roots! Work directly with professional archivists to build your family tree, record oral histories and assemble custom preservation boxes for your cherished family records.

Free admission, but registration is strictly capped at 6 families (5 max per family)! Each family will receive file folders that are archival safe too!!

🍂 Fall Tip: While in Arnprior, take a walk through the Gillies Grove Nature Reserve to see Canada's tallest hemlock trees in full fall color!

Yesterday, communities across Canada came together to remember, learn, listen and reflect on the history and ongoing legacy of residential schools.

Today, we ask a different question:

What happens next?

Truth and Reconciliation is not something we can complete in one day. It asks us to keep learning, to challenge what we have been taught, to listen to Indigenous voice and to consider how we can contribute to meaningful change in our own communities.

Maybe that means learning whose land you live on.
Maybe it means supporting an Indigenous-led organization or business.
Maybe it means reading the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
Maybe it means learning more about local Indigenous history and communities.
Maybe it means having a conversation that you have been avoiding.

There is no single way to participate in reconciliation, however there is an important place to start: keep going.

The orange shirts come off.
The learning continues.
The conversations continue.
The responsibility continues.

Reconciliation is not a one-day commitment.

Today, we remember the children who never returned home from residential schools, the survivors who continue to carry the impacts of those experiences and the families and communities whose lives have been shaped by this history.

We also recognize the strength, resilience, cultures, languages, families and communities that continue despite generations of colonial policies designed to disrupt them.

For many, today is a day of mourning. For others, it is a day to share teachings, stories, culture, and community. There is space for all of these experiences.

Wearing orange can be one way to show that we remember. But reconciliation cannot stop at a shirt, a post, or a single day.

Today, we listen.
Today, we learn.
Today, we remember.
And today, we consider what responsibility looks like beyond September 30.

Every Child Matters.
