Let us introduce our wonderful soloist Malcolm Horava!
Malcolm Horava is a Regular Force trumpet player with the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces, a freelance pianist, trumpeter, and vocalist, and avid teacher. He is a graduate of the BMus trumpet performance program at uOttawa and the MMus trumpet performance program at University of Toronto. He studied trumpet with Chris Lane, Steven Van Gulik, Eric Rupp, and Karen Donnelly in Ottawa, Anita MacAlister in Toronto, and piano with Frederic Lacroix during his BMus at uOttawa.
Malcolm was part of NYO in 2020 and 2021, performs occasionally with the Ottawa Symphony and Gatineau Symphony, enjoys playing in Baroque Chamber Orchestras in Ottawa, and has had the honour of playing the Last Post and Reveille for the National Capital Remembrance Ceremony in November of 2024. He has been the collaborative pianist for juries, recitals, courses, and competitions at uOttawa and U of T throughout his career. Malcolm sang with the Barbershop Quartet “Barbershop Therapy” during his BMus, and has sung with the Dickens Carolers, Renaissance Carolers, and Sleigh Bell Singers as a freelance vocalist at various times in the last 10 years. Malcolm teaches a private studio of trumpet students, has taken on the role of Trumpet Teaching Artist at the Centretown OrKidstra Hub and conducts an Intermediate New Horizons Concert Band on Wednesday nights.
