Huge thanks to our local sponsor Bancroft GoGreen for helping bring the 2026 World Tour Paddling Film Festival to Bancroft! 🛶🎬

For 35 years, Bancroft GoGreen has been the go-to spot for carbon-free adventure on the water—selling and renting quality Ontario-made canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards that are built for the rugged rivers and lakes of North Hastings. They have also recently expanded their offerings to include carbon-free land travel with a line of E-bikes, scooters, mobility aids and ATVs.  Rental and purchase options are offered for a vast array of water vessels and gear.  Paddles and safety equipment are provided.

Their support of the Paddling Film Festival shows how deeply they’re invested in our paddling culture here in North Hastings. They’re not just a shop—they’re part of the community that keeps people inspired to explore wild places, push a little further, and keep the paddle lifestyle alive year after year.

Join us Sunday, October 25, 1–5 pm at the Bancroft Village Playhouse for an afternoon of the world’s best paddling films. Presented by Hastings Destination Trails Inc.

Tickets:
* Adult $22 + HST
* Senior $17 + HST
* 12 & under $5 + HST

Stop by Bancroft GoGreen (224 Hastings St N) anytime—they always have a deal and a good chat waiting. They are conveniently located on the York River so you can dip your toes in the water so to speak and test things out!

Grateful to our two trusted community newspapers—the Bancroft Times and Bancroft This Week—who play a quiet but essential role in the Ontario Highlands tourism and recreation scene. And they are sponsoring next weekend’s screening of the International Paddling Film Festival World Tour at the BVP.

These weeklies do more than report the news. They actively support local events and keep residents and visitors informed about the rural recreation initiatives that define life in Bancroft and area and form a reliable information network that amplifies the very activities drawing people outdoors: trail runs, fishing derbies, river events, youth sports, music in the park, and community fundraisers.

Hastings Trails is grateful for the support of the Haliburton Press / White Pine Media family as we bring the International Paddling Film Festival to Bancroft!

Pick up the Bancroft Times or Bancroft This Week, or visit bancroftthisweek.com for the latest on community events and recreation.

On the banks of the Madawaska River in Palmer Rapids, the Paddler Co-op has become a vital part of the Ontario Highlands tourism scene—especially for the paddling community. This nonprofit, member-owned paddling school and outdoor community specializes in whitewater instruction for kayaking, canoeing, and packrafting, while offering courses for every skill level, youth camps, guided river trips, equipment rentals, and riverside camping open to the public.

What sets the Co-op apart is its commitment to accessibility and inclusion. It delivers high-quality whitewater instruction, certifications, group programs, and guided adventures at affordable rates, with some of the most accessible youth whitewater programs in Ontario plus family and group discounts. Experienced instructors help newcomers build confidence safely and support seasoned paddlers looking to advance their skills. The emphasis on inclusivity, sustainability, and a people-first approach means paddling is open to everyone—creating a welcoming base that keeps visitors returning season after season.

Hastings Trails is so pleased to have the support of the Paddler Co-op as we bring the International Paddling Film Festival to Bancroft, Ontario for the first time ever. And we encourage you to both book your tickets to the film festival (link in bio!) and check out the Paddler Co-op’s offerings at www.paddlerco-op.ca.

Everyone has heard of Algonquin Park and the magical experiences it offers to paddling adventurers. And many of us have relied on the busy Highway 60 corridor to get us access to Algonquin Park hiking and paddling trails. But few of us know of the treasure trove of outdoors experiences that the peaceful and quieter panhandle of Algonquin Park has to offer. Our friends at Deep Roots Adventure sure do!

Corina Hall, the owner/operator of Deep Roots Adventure, and her team will guide you through magical vistas and panoramas of Hastings and Haliburton Highlands, and beyond. At the Kingscote Outpost of Deep Roots Adventure you can slide your favorite water vessel into the beautiful York River. It will take you north into Algonquin Park or south along peaceful lakes to the far reaches of Hastings and even Renfrew Counties if you so choose. The name of this outfitter, Deep Roots Adventure says it all.

Check out their IG linked below for more. There you can find out about all their offerings: Kingscote rentals; guided tours including paddling, hiking and fishing; the paddle club; gear sales and rentals; foraging workshops and much, much more. Thank you Corina and team for sponsoring the Bancroft screening of the Paddling Film Festival World Tour!

In the heart of Ontario’s Haliburton Highlands, where the southern edge of Algonquin Park meets the rolling forests and sparkling waters of North Hastings, there’s a special kind of adventure waiting. One that moves at the rhythm of hoofbeats instead of engines.

For more than 25 years, our friends at South Algonquin Equestrian Trails, a family-run gem just outside the village of Harcourt, have been quietly leading the way for non-motorized recreation. Their mission goes far beyond offering a fun day in the saddle. They’re passionate champions of sustainable, peaceful trail experiences that protect the wild character of North Hastings while making it accessible to everyone who wants to explore it the natural way. They are also a proud community sponsor of the Bancroft screening of the International Padding Film Festival.

Whether you’re a first-timer on a gentle guided trail ride, an experienced equestrian bringing your own horse for a day pass, or a family settling into one of their horse-friendly campsites or cozy cabins, there is something for you at South Algonquin Trails.

Visit southalgonquintrails.com to explore trail rides, campsites, cabins, day passes, and more. Then pack your sense of adventure and head north to Harcourt.

Hunting season is upon us in Hastings County. During this time, it’s important to practice extra caution when out exploring local trails. Be mindful; recognize that hunting activities may be taking place in the area. Ensure you are wearing clothing that is visible to hunters and other visitors, such as hunter orange or another bright colour. And if you’re visiting an area with your pet, ensure they are on a leash and are wearing something with bright colours too, such as a collar, leash or clothing. Avoid hiking at dawn and dusk, and anytime visibility is limited and lastly, always stay on designated trails!

With the Bancroft screening of the International Paddling Film Festival quickly approaching, Hastings Trails wants to take the time to thank the local sponsors who are helping to make this event a reality. First up is Madawaska Kanu Centre (MKC), which has been welcoming people to the Madawaska River to learn, explore, challenge themselves, and connect with nature for over 50 years! At the heart of MKC is a simple mission: to provide meaningful outdoor experiences and education for everyone while building a more inclusive, supportive, and connected paddling community.

The team at MKC believe rivers have a way of bringing people together—and that learning to move with the river can teach us a lot about ourselves, each other, and the world around us. To learn more about the opportunities for paddling education and fun at MKC, visit their website. And don’t forget to book your tickets for the Bancroft screening of the International Paddling Film Festival on Sunday, October 25th, 2026 where you will automatically be entered to win 2 complimentary passes for their signature whitewater rafting experience that they have so generously donated to the raffle.

Hastings Trails was proud to be out supporting the North of 7 River Run, hosted by the Ontario Marathon Canoe Kayak Racing Association (OMCKRA), in Bancroft this past weekend. This race served as the Ontario Marathon Provincials championship for OMCKRA members but was open to all competitors.

The 12 and 24KM routes followed the York River starting from Riverside Park. Hastings Trails is proud to promote our local land and water trails that offer us such a fantastic natural playground!
