SIGNAL HILL WILDFIRE UPDATE

BC Wildfire Service has officially declared the Signal Hill Wildfire (V30852) OUT. 🔥✅

Since the wildfire was first discovered on July 15, significant progress has been made thanks to the incredible efforts of BC Wildfire Service crews, Pemberton Fire Rescue, emergency responders, partner agencies, Village & SLRD staff, and the cooperation of our community.

While the wildfire is now declared out, wildfire-affected areas can continue to present hazards, including danger trees, ash pits, unstable terrain, and rockfall.

🌲 Trail users: please continue to exercise caution. Over the coming days, trail builders will be assessing the trail network on a trail-by-trail basis to understand the extent of any damage and identify hazards.

🚲 If you’re riding in the area:
• Check Trailforks for the latest trail status and conditions
• Ride cautiously and be prepared for changing conditions
• Report any trail damage, hazards, or maintenance concerns through Trailforks

⚠️ Bob’s Loop remains CLOSED due to slope stability concerns and will remain closed pending the completion and review of a geotechnical assessment.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the response to the Signal Hill Wildfire. We are especially grateful to our residents and community members for their patience, preparedness, cooperation, and support throughout this event. ❤️

Please give trail crews the time and space they need to safely assess the area. We’ll continue to share updates as we learn more.

Please join us in welcoming our new Interim President, Luke! 🎉

Luke has been an integral part of the PVTA for the past 8 years, contributing countless volunteer hours both on and off the trails. As one of our most dedicated trail volunteers, he’s consistently been out there getting his hands dirty and helping make our trail network better for everyone.

Over the years, Luke has also served as our Moto Representative and Trails Director, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the organization.

We’re incredibly grateful for his continued dedication to the PVTA and excited to have him step into the role of Interim President. Thank you, Luke, for everything you’ve done and continue to do for our trails and our community! 🙌

We also want to send a huge thank you to Julia who is stepping down from the PVTA Board after several years of dedication and service, including most recently as President. We’re sad to say goodbye, but excited for her as she embarks on a new adventure in a new town. Thank you, Julia, for everything you’ve contributed to the PVTA and our trail community over the years. We wish you all the best in this next chapter! ❤️

A note from the Pemberton Valley Trails Association💚

Over the past week, our community has faced an incredibly challenging time as the Signal Hill wildfire unfolded. We are relieved that it has not resulted in the loss of homes or critical infrastructure, and we are deeply grateful to the BC Wildfire Service, Pemberton Firefighters Association and partners, the Village of Pemberton, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, and everyone who has continued to step up to support our community during this emergency.

Since the wildfire began, we have seen an incredible outpouring of care. The offers to help, the messages of support, and the willingness of people to lend a hand are a reminder of the strength of this community.

We know the wildfire has affected the trail network around Lumpy’s Epic, but we do not yet know the full extent. We also recognize that this area holds important cultural significance for Lil̓wat Nation and is part of a unique and valuable ecosystem. As we move forward, we are committed to working alongside Lil̓wat Nation Title and Rights, local governments, land managers, Speĺkúmtn Community Forest, and the trail community to support rehabilitation.

There will be a time when volunteers and partners can help with the future of the trails, and we will share those opportunities when it is appropriate to do so.

In the meantime, please continue to follow all guidance from the VOP, SLRD, and emergency officials regarding closed access to the area. Burned areas can remain dangerous due to unstable trees, hidden hot spots, and more. We also continue to ask that you do not use chainsaws or other power tools to clear downed trees in other areas of the trail network. If you encounter a downed tree or other debris, please report it through Trailforks and send us a message directly so we can prioritize work as it is safe to do so. We appreciate your patience.

This summer will continue to be hot and dry, with conditions that increase the risk of wildfire. Please take extra care when on the trails and continue to look after the land, the trails, and one another.

Thank you to those who have reported downed trees and debris on the trails. We have been in the Mackenzie zone this weekend to begin clearing what we can safely and will continue working our way through based on conditions.

We ask that you do not use power tools on the trails at this time. If you come across a downed tree, please report it on Trailforks or send us a message directly so our trail crew can prioritize the work.

Please continue to follow the guidance of local authorities regarding the wildfire in the One Mile zone so crews can continue their important work safely and without interruption.

Thank you for your patience and for helping keep the trail network safe for everyone.

BC Wildfire Update as of 10:18 a.m. on July 18, 2026 -
Our priorities are to maintain the safety of responders and the public, and to protect communities, critical infrastructure, and cultural values.

Weather and Fire Behaviour
▪ Overnight, fire behaviour remained minimal, aided by favourable weather conditions.
▪ Today (Saturday, July 18), cooler temperatures, increased relative humidity, and lower wind speeds are again conducive to subdued fire behaviour.
▪ Some increased fire behaviour and smoke may be visible this afternoon as temperatures rise and wind speeds increase modestly.
▪ While conditions are expected to remain favourable through this morning, a warming and drying trend is forecast to begin later this afternoon and into next week.

Operations
▪ Overnight, crews worked to bolster containment and conducted patrols to identify and suppress any spot fires. No new spot fires were found.
▪ Today, crews will be conducting direct attack operations on all flanks of the fire.
▪ Helicopters will continue bucketing on hot spots and addressing steep, inaccessible terrain along the Green River.

Public safety
Highway 99 is open, however; no stopping is permitted within the wildfire zone. We urge drivers to check DriveBC before leaving.
