If you see a smooth greensnake, please report it! 🐍

Last year, with your help, we made important progress in understanding PEI’s RAREST reptile species — the Smooth Greensnake 🐍 Public observations were one of the best ways we gathered data, and we confirmed that Smooth Greensnakes are still here on PEI — but MANY questions remain about where they live, habitat use, and population status. 🤔

📊 2025 at a glance:
• We received 20 reliable Smooth Greensnake observations from the public
• Observations came from all three counties
• New observations were shared with our friends at the Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre where they can be used in the future to assess the conservation status of this species for PEI

These contributions are CRITICAL— this species is rare, difficult to detect, and still poorly understood in PEI.

📣 We need your help again in 2026!
If you see a Smooth Greensnake, PLEASE REPORT IT! When submitting an observation, include:
1. Location (GPS coordinates or a detailed description of where you saw the snake)
2. A photo or video if possible
3. A description of the habitat (e.g., long grass, wet meadow, near forest edge, under logs or rocks)

‼️We are also actively looking for any dead Smooth Greensnakes (e.g., roadkill, lawn mower strikes) to support an ongoing genetic study. These samples will help improve our understanding of population structure and conservation need. If you find a dead Smooth Greensnake, place the deceased snake in a plastic bag, store it in your freezer, and contact us to arrange collection.

If you have a sighting to report, please contact Julie-Lynn via email at [email protected] or telephone at 902-368-6450.

Thank you for helping us learn more about this unique and elusive species!

Did you know that the Foresthill Hiking & Equestrian Trail is shared by both hikers and horseback riders? When you meet a horse on the trail, a little courtesy goes a long way. Slow down, give plenty of space, and follow the rider's instructions to help keep everyone safe and comfortable.

By respecting all trail users, we help make the trail a welcoming place for hikers, riders, horses, and pets alike.

Hi:

This year’s Soap Box race day is Saturday,July 18th & rain date on Sunday the 19th.

Registration starts this Thursday, June 11th between 6:00 & 8:00 pm. Price is $ 40.00 per car.

Unfortunately, the manufacture of the “Go Derby kits” has gone out of business so we do not have any more kits. We are looking for different suppliers for future years.

The good news is that since the Soap Derby started there has been over 220 kits build and each year there are about 50 cars from these that still race. So there has to be a great number of cars that can be recycled.

I am requesting anyone who has one of these cars and doesn’t use and would like to loan or sell it,please contact me.

Also, any one who has a child for would like to be a driver in the
“All American” cars please contact me.

There is always 20 cars in this race. There is no cost to the family as all the cars are sponsored.

Requirements for drivers

1. They must be at least 10 years old by July 18,2026. Usually the upper end for is about 13 years and around 130 lbs.
2. They must have 2 adults for a pit crew of day of race as well as the trials.
3. The winner will go on to Akron,Ohio for the World Championship
In 2027.

There are also very nice prizes for 2nd thru 4th place finishes.

If we have too many we will have a draw.

You can contact me by phone at 902 315 2677 or messenger on Facebook.
