On behalf of The Royal Canadian Legion branch 117, I would like to wish everybody a happy Victory In Europe Day. 81 years ago today, N**i Germany formally surrendered to allied forces, ending the war in Europe. In its wake, lay a continent in ruins, millions dead, and millions more displaced. It would take decades for the continent to be rebuilt, but the world would never be the same.
It is days like today that I am reminded of how lucky we all are to live in the greatest country on earth. It is not without its dark history, and it is not without its flaws. However, it is a nation that always strives to improve, and there is nowhere else on this planet that I would rather be. I am proud to call Canada home.
