This summer, communities around the Minas Basin will come together to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the KIPAWO ferry, which began service on May 1, 1926.
Built specifically to connect Wolfville, Kingsport, and Parrsboro, the KIPAWO was the last of over 30 ferries to serve the Minas Basin. She became an enduring symbol of connection and remains one of the region's most beloved vessels.
To mark this milestone, three community celebrations will be held in the historic ports she once served:
Kingsport
Saturday, June 27, 2026
2:30 p.m.
Kingsport Waterfront (Tide's In Canteen area)
Parrsboro
Saturday, July 11, 2026
10:30 a.m.
Ship's Company Theatre Deck
Wolfville
Saturday, July 25, 2026
11:00 a.m.

Each event will feature local speakers, historical displays, opportunities to share memories and photographs, and a special commemorative KIPAWO 100 cake.
Whether you have fond memories of travelling aboard the KIPAWO or are discovering her story for the first time, we invite you to join us in celebrating this important piece of shared Minas Basin heritage.
Residents with photographs, memorabilia, or personal stories related to the KIPAWO are especially encouraged to attend and help preserve this shared history for future generations.
We hope to see you there!
