Paris Legion 29 - 100th Anniversary & Poppy Project

As I am sure many folks know, it is the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion this year — and it has been commonly requested that the County paint crosswalks, murals, or other urban art displays to honour our Veterans.

I received in my Friday files this week that we officially will be installing these public art pieces in early fall this year ahead of the 100th anniversary and Remembrance Day!

For this project I want to thank all four of our local legions, the roads department, and communications department for contributing to this project.

We reached out to all four legions to discuss what they wanted these art pieces to look like. Three of the Legions will be opting for a crosswalk, including in Paris, and one for a mural.

Additionally, the County will be printing flags to hang in our downtowns and outside the Legions.

Each and every one of these poppies are now to be hand-sewn on to a community poppy blanket for the Paris Legion 29's 100th Anniversary and Remembrance Day celebrations!

A very heartfelt thank you to all who participated and continue to help out. Your time and effort is invaluable!

We will be hosting 4 Wednesday afternoons (starting this Wednesday May 27th, 1PM - 4PM) where people can drop-by and help affix some poppies to the blanket netting.

It was a sold-out afternoon for friends and supporters of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29 at our 100th Anniversary High Tea!

Guests enjoyed fancy sandwiches and treats by 'Queensview Retirement Community' and refreshing teas by 'The Peddlar' downtown Paris. Thanks also to 'Walter’s Greenhouses & Garden Centre' for the floral displays and beautiful spring pansies! Mimosas and fascinators added to the festive atmosphere. 🥂🎩

A great big THANK YOU as always to our tireless volunteers who never fail to knock it out of the park — we truly couldn’t do it without you. Thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤️💐

Preparations for our 100th Anniversary continue to gain momentum!

Our knitted/crocheted POPPY COUNT has now surpassed 9,182! An incredible milestone made possible through the generosity and support of our community!

While we have set the end of June as the official cutoff date for poppy donations, we will continue to accept contributions beyond that point but will be focusing our efforts on the next phase—attaching them to the netting.

The Anniversary Committee has been hard at work organizing a mix of new fundraising initiatives alongside some of our tried-and-true favourites.

We encourage everyone to support these efforts by attending upcoming Legion events, including the Mother’s Day High Tea and Mother’s Day Brunch. Tickets for both events are available at the Legion for $20.00. See flyers on this page for more info!

The ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH 29 in PARIS is celebrating its 100TH ANNIVERSARY in 2026 along with the national ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION centenary.

On this page you will find updates on BRANCH 29 anniversary events and activities happening all year right through to the GALA DINNER & DANCE on the anniversary weekend of October 3rd and 4th, 2026.

We will be planning special events all summer long and have some great activities planned to coincide with ‘Ontario Culture Days’ September 18th to October 4th’.

Our community has crocheted and knitted nearly 9000 poppies since last fall. Starting in July we will begin attaching them to netting to create a giant poppy blanket that will be draped on the cenotaph for Remembrance Day and displayed around town and at the Legion. A very special community project.

The ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH 29 in PARIS is active year-round with many events and activities open to the community. You don't have to be a member to attend any event - all are welcome! Come and check us out!

• Spring Market on Saturday, June 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

• Summer Barbecues – Starting in May, every Saturday afternoon (weather permitting).

The Branch 29 Legion also offers regular game nights throughout the year including darts, co****le, euchre, trivia nights and more!

The 'Royal Canadian Legion' was officially incorporated by a special Act of Parliament on July 17, 1926 - the date now celebrated as its national anniversary. 𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐇 𝟐𝟗 𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐒, one of the early branches, shares this milestone, having served its community for a full century alongside the national Legion.

This makes 2026 a truly special centenary year for both the Paris branch and '𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐎𝐘𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐈𝐎𝐍' across Canada.
