As part of National Coaches Week, we continue to turn the spotlight on local coaches participating in the Canada Games Women in Coaching Program.

Hear directly from our coaches about the program and their passion for coaching the next generation of Newfoundland and Labrador athletes.

Up next: Carmen Elliott

"I’m a former athlete who recently returned home to Newfoundland and began coaching. I’m entering my second year as a coach and have tried to take advantage of every opportunity available to grow, learn, and become the best coach I can be for the young girls in our communities.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such a knowledgeable and experienced Games staff. I’m excited to learn from everyone, gain new perspectives, and bring those experiences back to the girls I have the privilege of coaching.”

As part of Coaching Association of Canada / Association canadienne des entraîneurs National Coaches Week, we are turning the spotlight on a local coach participating in the Canada Games Women in Coaching Program and Aboriginal Apprentice Coaching Program.

Coaching Newfoundland and Labrador, Badminton NL, and the Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Circle Newfoundland Labrador came together to provide funding support for Kayla on her coaching journey.

Hear directly from her about her experience and passion for coaching.

Kayla Campbell

“The Aboriginal Apprentice Coaching Program provides elite hands-on experience, advanced training, and mentorship to help women build high-performance coaching careers.

SportNL has provided incredible support along the way, offering the resources, mentorship, and guidance needed to navigate the program and succeed at a provincial level.

My passion for coaching youth badminton as an indigenous woman lies in overcoming biases through tactical excellence while empowering the next generation, especially young girls to command the court with fierce competitiveness, and absolute authority.

Coach Kayla.”
