Yesterday, the NL fighters took back to the stage for semi finals and finals bouts.

Wade King had a great semi final bout against a very experienced fighter and didn’t get the Win but came out of his first ever World Championships as a Bronze Medalist!!!!! Congratulations Wade on an outstanding performances.

Robbie Wiseman started the day out with his LC division semi final and came out victorious. A couple hours later he was back up for the finals against a very seasoned USA fighter. It was a back and forth bout but Robbie took the bout by split decision becoming the new WAKO World Kickboxing Champion.

He then turned his attention to his PF division where he came up just short in the semi finals against the same USA opponent. He ended up with a Bronze Medal for that division.

We will make a final post tomorrow as we close out the 2023 WAKO World Kickboxing Championships.

Another day done and the NL fighters had a great day.

Robbie Wiseman of Rock Athletics won his LC and PF divisions quarter finals. Tomorrow it’s off to the semi finals.

Wade King also of Rock Athletics won his LC division quarter final. Off to the semi finals tomorrow.

Congrats to both on great fights.

Fred Holloway of Warrior Elite Kickboxing lost his fight in a tight decision.

Good luck to the guys tomorrow !!!!

Day 2 done.

What can we say?

If you got to see Stephanie Fleming from Rock Athletics fight today, you got to see one of the toughest ladies from the island fight.

Stephanie had an awesome showing. She hunted her opponent and was relentless in her fight. She also scored Canada’s first knockdown with her never stop attitude. Unfortunately, the judges saw it different in the end. It was a hard fought loss but rest assured that she will come back with a vengeance!!! Keep your head high. We can’t wait to watch you fight again!!!!

Tomorrow, we have Robbie Wiseman and Wade King, both from Rock Athletics, and Fred Holloway from Warrior Elite Kickboxing on the mats.

Day 1 of the WAKO World Kickboxing Championships is in the books.

2 of our NL fighters had their first fights at their first ever world event. Jamie Suley and Alex Hiscock of Michael Foley’s Martial Arts Academy both came up just short but if there is one thing we all agreed on is that these two guys have what it takes to be successful at this level of competition. They may have lost their fights this year, but you can be certain that they both have what it takes to become future champions. We are all very proud of these guys and can’t wait to watch them again. You have have represented your country, province, and club at the highest level. Be proud boys!!!!

Tomorrow, we have Stephanie Fleming from Rock Athletics stepping into the ring. She will be fighting the 37th bout on ring 2. You can follow along the live timetable to track approx time of when she will be fighting. Her approximate bout time will be 12:15pm NL time. Tracking table link Below:

The first set of Newfoundlander’s are about to take the stage at the WAKO World Kickboxing Championships tomorrow morning.

Both Jamie and Alex, both fighting out of Michael Foley's Academy of Martial Arts, will be fighting.

Jamie is up first. He fights bout 2 on tatami 1 at approximately 7:40 am NL time.

Alex is up next having bout 5 on tatami 1 at approximately 8:15 am NL time.

This is WAKO NL first official post.

This has been a long time in the making. Newfoundland has produced some of the best kickboxers across Canada and on the International stage.

Our first post comes from Albufeira, Portugal where 6 Kickboxers from 3 different clubs on the island are representing Canada at the WAKO World Kickboxing Championships.

A WAKO WEEKEND

It was an incredibly busy weekend for WAKO Canada as we hosted 3 sanctioned events and each with a unique platform.

Destiny 7 - the team led by Pound-4-Pound hosted a full Prestige card at the Pickering Casino. The bouts were incredible with the audience seeing the most experienced athletes doing battle under full prestige rules.

Fight for Youth - the number of WAKO shows in the nations capital continue to increase showing the great kickboxing talent in Ottawa. OAMA hosted another charity event as they continue to raise funds to support the programs of the Big Brother and Big Sister of Ottawa.

We also had our first kickboxing show on the rock in many years. It was fitting that long time WAKO Canada club - ROCK Athletics - hosted the show in St.Johns with great support from clubs across the province and from Halifax as well.

WAKO Canada celebrates the success of all three shows and the support our member clubs gave each of the host clubs.

It had become a regular occurrence to have multiple shows on the same weekend. With so many new clubs and our regular staple of competitive teams this is a great time to be a competitive athlete!

There are still shows scheduled for the remainder of the year including our first WAKO show in Victoria BC!

The competitive season ends with our Open Provincial Championship in December. Remember the registration deadline ends November 13.

Congratulations to all coaches, athletes, parents and club owners that continue to strive for excellence and the love of sport!

Registration Open – 2024 Nationals

WAKO Canada is excited to announce that the registration for the largest, most prestigious Ring sport competition in North America is now open!

We are also excited to display the most incredible belt ever minted for an event held in Canada! Year after year many try to copy the quality of the WAKO Canada awards which is a flattering compliment.

However, the 2024 Golden Belt will be the belt everyone will want to win!
This is the first amateur belt with a metal plate at the end similar to professional belts.

This belt screams champion!

WAKO Canada has always believed in providing athletes the best quality awards given the incredible Work ethic of our amateur athletes, coaches and supporters of our sport!

Register early and take advantage of the Early Bird Fee.

We are expecting over 700 athletes to register for the 2024 Nationals.
This may mean that some divisions will be capped at 16 participants.

The Early Bird Registration is December 1st.
