CADS NCD Mount Pakenham Adaptive Ski Program

CADS NCD Mount Pakenham Adaptive Ski Program CADS is a volunteer-led, non-profit organization providing snowsport experiences to those living with disabilities. NEW VOLUNTEERS are always welcome!

An 8-week instructional program offered January- March at Mount Pakenham. You must be an intermediate skier. If you have had CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructor Alliance) certification at some point, that would be beneficial, but it is certainly not required. Volunteer for as little as 2 hours per week. We provide training. POTENTIAL NEW PARTICIPANTS are welcome to apply.

Most Improved Athlete – CADS 2026 Season - This award is made in memory of Rick Ellas

Congratulations, Simon Edgar! Simon has been part of our program for years, always working hard and showing up with determination. Last spring, Coach Grant and Doug took a big step and “cut him loose” on Wizard for the very first time—and he proved he was ready. He showed real control, confidence, and the ability to navigate the hill on his own terms.

This season, Simon took that momentum and ran with it. We started again on Wizard, added slack‑tether runs, and over the past two weeks he’s gone fully free‑range. He’s been showing consistent pizza/snowplow, making intentional turns, and—best of all—having an absolute blast out there. If you’ve seen the videos, you know exactly what we mean.

There’s still more to learn, but the progress he’s made is huge. Simon is listening, applying, and pushing himself in all the right ways. We couldn’t be prouder of his growth this season.

Here’s to independence, confidence, and many more amazing runs ahead. Way to go, Simon! 🎉⛷️💙

For 2026, there was a shared award for the CADS Mount Pakenham Volunteer of the Year Award. This award is made in memory of Derek Sarsfield.

From Brian Sarsfield:

Christine Charters Ellas believes strongly in the mission of CADS–Pakenham and demonstrates that commitment through her steady leadership and hands-on involvement. Further, she finds true joy in bringing joy to others, and in building meaningful connections with students and their parents/caregivers, and other volunteers.

Manya Charette is an invaluable leader within the Sunday CADS instructor team. Her dedication, generosity, and quiet strength embody the values of CADS and the spirit of the Volunteer of the Year Award—bringing hope, joy, and stability to the lives of CADS skiers and volunteers alike.

Congratulations to both incredibly deserving recipients!
