When we started the “new” rec board we had high hopes and big dreams, village seemed just as excited as we were.
New board was formed back in January, council chose the new signing authority in April but did not submit the form to the bank until June.
During that time there was a lot of confusion, told we did not need to know the balance in the account, old rec board never did. (How do you function without knowing what your working with)
We pushed through, planned the first bingo based almost entirely on donation for prizes. Rec board account had around 600 at that time.
We were approached by village to open our own account, out from under the village umbrella. Told also that if and when we did we would have to pay back the initial $5000 that was given from the village as a start up back in 2015.
We debated whether or not to do that as we didn’t have $5000. Over then next little while we were told it was only $2000 then $3000 that was given.
We wrote a letter saying we would open our own account but that we needed clarification as to the true amount.
The accident happened, and things got bad. Village demanded yearly financial record after only 6 months. We supplied it and were told it was garbage and made no sense.
We asked to be put on the agenda to clarify as every bank transaction had a corresponding receipt, we were confused. We were unable to get on the agenda until January 2024. At that time we were told council decided to close the rec board and that we were obligated to pay $4008.
We had raised a total of $5000 to put towards the multipurpose facility, $2000 of that was in the form of a grant. We had to return the grant as its purpose was the facility.
We tried to speak with village about reconsidering and proposed a payment option on the funds but they still refused.
The $3000 remaining is in a bank account for the rec board unused with hopes of possibly creating an all new board.
All of the allegations and assumptions have taken there tole on us but we continued to try and be optimistic.
Unfortunately it think it’s time for us to be realistic in the fact that a rec board will never be viable.
We had a lot of fun and truly appreciated all the support.
