ATLANTIC 9:38 • DAY 1📍 Avalon Peninsula, Newfoundland & Labrador
"Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
— Matthew 9:38
The Avalon Peninsula is where North America first heard the Gospel. St. John's holds the oldest Roman Catholic ecclesiastical jurisdiction in English-speaking North America — a cathedral on a hill, centuries of faith written into the stone of this city. And yet today, those with no religious affiliation have grown significantly, even as all major Christian traditions have seen decline. The harvest is real. The labourers are needed.
From the colourful row houses of St. John's to the quiet outports dotting Conception Bay, from the growing suburbs of Paradise and Mount Pearl to the ancient settlement at Ferryland — nearly half of Newfoundland & Labrador's population calls this peninsula home. These are people who know how to endure. They've survived collapsed fisheries, economic swings, and the slow drift away from the faith their grandparents held. Many still carry a spiritual hunger they don't have words for yet.
Lord of the Harvest, the Avalon Peninsula has heard Your name for centuries. Today, we ask that a new generation would not just know the name of Jesus — but follow Him. Raise up labourers. Awaken the spiritually hungry. Give courage to every believer who has a neighbour, a coworker, or a family member who doesn't yet know You. May the oldest Christian ground in English-speaking North America experience a fresh harvest. Amen.
