As we near the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we’re sharing the definitions of common words as they relate to the experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in the Residential School system.

Today’s word is reconciliation: an ongoing process based on the principles of mutual respect, honesty and goodwill.

NCTR's spirit name - bezhig miigwan, meaning "one feather".
Bezhig miigwan calls upon us to see each Survivor coming to the NCTR as a single eagle feather and to show those Survivors the same respect and attention an eagle feather deserves. It also teaches we are all in this together — we are all one, connected, and it is vital to work together to achieve reconciliation.

Join us at the Kincardine and Walkerton Branches of the Bruce County Public Library for a screening of The Secret Path.

This powerful film created by Gord Downie and Jeff Lemire, telling the true story of Chanie Wenjack, a 12-year-old Anishinaabe boy who died in 1966 after escaping a residential school and attempting to walk home.

The screening offers an opportunity for reflection, learning, and remembrance in advance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
