June 18th is Infant and Child Day which is celebrated across Ontario by professionals, organizations, and the Ontario Association for Infant and Child Development (OAICD). It is dedicated to honouring the contributions of ICD consultants who support early childhood development, helping young children and families thrive. Both Community Living Owen Sound & District and Community Living Walkerton & District are proud to have ICDS programs staffed by consultants who provide invaluable early intervention services to children and families across Grey Bruce. Our consultants meet each family with an open mind and a caring heart, equipped with specific tools and training. These qualities are so very important as they are often the first professional families met when pursuing services.
Each year OAICD celebrates this day using a theme. This year’s theme was reflecting on childhood in the 90’s and when polled, our consultants shared what they valued about that time in life:
• children made their own fun, often playing outside for hours
• children learned how to be bored
• children had stories read to them versus electronic devices
• children played games like I Spy to pass time on road trips or waiting for appointments
• less structured and planned time as a family
• less pressure around what to feed your infant
What’s that saying about change? “The only thing that ever stays the same is that everything changes.”
Despite whatever changes we may see along the way pertaining to lifestyle, the one thing that stays the same is the commitment, dedication and benevolence our consultants demonstrate each and every day.
We join OAICD in thanking all ICD consultants for your countless contributions to communities across Ontario.
