This week, representatives from the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (HUMA) to contribute to two important discussions on Canada's education and workforce priorities.

On Tuesday, October 6, Lisa Lovelady, President and CEO of NACC member Academy Canada and member of NACC's Board of Directors, appeared before the committee as part of its study of Bill C-266, the National Framework on Skilled Trades and Labour Mobility Act. The proposed legislation focuses on reducing barriers to labour mobility and improving recognition of skilled trades credentials across Canada.

Yesterday, on Thursday, October 8, NACC CEO Michael Sangster appeared as a witness before the same committee to discuss Canada Student Grant funding and the important contributions of regulated career colleges in preparing Canadians for careers in high-demand sectors.

NACC remains committed to advocating for accessible, career-focused education and policies that prioritize student choice.

NACC congratulates Minister Patty Hajdu and the Government of Canada on today’s announcement advancing efforts to recruit, train, and hire the next generation of skilled trades workers.

We are particularly pleased to see discussions underway with provinces and territories on new bilateral agreements that would provide $2 billion in federal funding to expand access to pre-apprenticeship and technical training.

Regulated career colleges across Canada are already doing much of this work, providing hands-on, employment-focused training that prepares Canadians for careers in the skilled trades and helps employers meet critical workforce needs.

NACC looks forward to working with governments across Canada to ensure regulated career colleges can continue to play a meaningful role in training the skilled workforce Canada needs.
