A naloxone kit can feel intimidating if you’ve never opened one before. It doesn’t have to be.

This International Overdose Awareness Day, Grace, a Pharmacist at The Royal’s RespectRX Pharmacy, gives us a closer look at what’s inside a kit and how you can get one.

The more people who feel confident recognizing the signs of an overdose and knowing what to do, the safer our communities become. Understanding how to respond could make all the difference when every second counts.

Mental illness can divide a life into "before" and "after." Karmi knows that feeling all too well. But her story is also one of resilience, courage, and discovering that a diagnosis does not define a person.

Farewell, Bernie!

After a decade of powering groundbreaking brain and mental health research, our Siemens Biograph mMR PET/MRI scanner (known to the team as “Bernie”) has officially left The Royal. Thank you for helping researchers push the boundaries of discovery since 2016.

But this isn’t goodbye for long... Stay tuned as we prepare to welcome a next-generation scanner that will help unlock even deeper insights into the brain.

People living with difficult-to-treat depression in eastern Ontario now have greater access to a proven treatment option.

The Royal and The Ottawa Hospital - L'Hôpital d'Ottawa (TOH) are partnering to improve access to repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) through Ontario Health's Neurostimulation Procedures Provincial Program.

rTMS is a non-invasive, evidence-based treatment for adults whose depression has not responded to conventional therapies, like medication and psychotherapy.

This milestone builds on years of research at The Royal and TOH, where scientists and clinicians have helped advance the understanding of rTMS and its role in treating depression.

Now, more people will be able to access specialized care and reclaim their lives from mental illness.
