Personal support workers are under attack – the Ford government’s regulatory body for PSWs (HSCPOA) makes workers more precarious.

These proposed regulations deny PSWs the same rights as other regulated professionals (like nurses).

PSWs deserve a seat at the table, and the respect given to other healthcare professions.

Send Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Sylvia Jones a message advocating for PSWs to have the same rights as other health care professionals: cupe.on.ca/hscpoa

Hello CUPE Local 4000 Membership,
We’re pleased tell you, that after six full, and sometimes challenging days of
bargaining, your CUPE Local 4000 Bargaining Committee has come to a
tentative agreement with The Ottawa Hospital, for the renewal of our Collective
Agreement.
What this means, is that we are prepared to recommend that the Local 4000
membership vote in favour, of the new tentative agreement.
As we understand you’re interested in reviewing all these changes, we’ve
scheduled the ratification vote as soon as reasonably possible.
The ratification vote will take place in person at the CUPE Local 4000 Union Hall,
at 32 Colonnade Road N, Unit 200, Ottawa, ON , K2E 7J6 , from 5:30 AM to
7:30 PM, Thursday May 21, 2026.
During that period, you’ll have an opportunity to review all the changes to the
Collective Agreement, ask any questions you’d like clarification on, and vote
whether you’re in favour of the new agreement.
Thank you for the continued support, you, the membership, have given your
CUPE Local 4000 Bargaining Committee.

Nous sommes heureux de vous annoncer qu'après six journées de négociation
bien remplies et parfois difficiles, le comité de négociation de la section locale
4000 du SCFP est parvenu à une entente de principe avec L'Hôpital d'Ottawa
pour le renouvellement de notre convention collective.
Cela signifie que nous sommes prêts à recommander aux membres de la section
locale 4000 de voter en faveur de la nouvelle entente de principe.
Comme nous comprenons que vous êtes intéressés à examiner tous ces
changements, nous avons prévu le vote de ratification le plus tôt possible.
Le vote de ratification aura lieu en personne au bureau de la section locale 4000
du SCFP, au 32, chemin Colonnade N, unité 200, Ottawa (Ontario), K2E 7J6, de
5:30 à 19:30 le 21 mai 2026.
Au cours de cette période, vous aurez l'occasion d'examiner tous les
changements apportés à la convention collective, de poser toutes les questions
que vous avez besoin de clarification et de voter en faveur de la nouvelle
convention.

Another round of hospital cuts in Ontario despite the severe understaffing that's crippling the sector. The Ottawa Hospital has announced 400 job cuts, the vast majority of them nurses and PSWs.

This is absurd considering the latest provincial data: patients at the Ottawa Hospital on average wait 24 hours for admission to the hospital, with 82% waiting longer than the 8-hour target time.

Cutting more staff will deplete the workforce, making it harder to serve patients in a timely manner, prolonging wait-times and hurting care.
