Strengthening Responsible Mining Practices

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia — September 18, 2026 — CanCham Mongolia co-organized the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Standard Training, in Ulaanbaatar on 17–18 September 2026, together with the Mining Association of Canada (MAC) and the Mongolian National Mining Association (MNMA).

This two-day training, funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), brought together representatives and stakeholders from Mongolia’s mining sector to strengthen understanding of responsible and sustainable mining practices.

The training was delivered by Mr. Benjamin Allen Chalmers, Senior Vice President of MAC, and Mr. Charles Grant Dumaresq, Vice President of Science and Environmental Management at MAC, who guided participants through presentations, discussions, and practical exercises on the TSM framework and its application in the Mongolian mining context.

A total of 20 professionals from Mongolian mining companies including Erdenet Mining Corporation, Energy Resources, Erdene Mongol, Core TS, TrigTeg, and Mine Manager attended the training and gained practical knowledge on environmental and social performance, accountability, and responsible mining practices.

The program provided a platform for participants to exchange experiences and discuss opportunities and challenges in advancing responsible mining practices in Mongolia, further strengthening collaboration between the two mining communities and supporting continued progress in responsible resource development.
