Mark your calendars!
The October 24 Gelli Plate Workshop is a day to learn the mysterious ways of the Gelli Plate, creating designs of myriad style and colour! Learn Gelli Plate as a new user, or develop new techniques to add to what you already know! We will then enter our papers, cutting and tearing, into an Accordion/Concertina Collage Book which we will make using one large sheet of Watercolour paper.
Workshop Facilitator, Pat Durant, is a Mixed Media Artist who began creating in earnest in 2020. A life-long creative, once retired, she finally had the time to bring her creative longings forward and found Mixed Media was her home. Gelli Plate printing and creating was top of her list in early days and she is eager to share her knowledge and experience with you!

My Artwork today called Memories of the Maypole dance. We used to do this at school when I was a little girl. Our teachers would tie strips of colourful crepe paper high up on the flagpole in the school yard. On May 1st, we each stood around it with a strand in our hand and danced around it, weaving in and out, over and under, until the “ribbons” covered and decorated the pole. In my piece, I have used copper foil to represent the dappled sunlight shining through the tall trees surrounding the schoolyard.

The maypole dance is an ancient, joyous European folk dance performed around a tall, decorated pole (often with ribbons) to celebrate spring, summer, and fertility. Participants weave ribbons into intricate, colorful patterns around the pole, symbolizing growth and the union of nature's energies. It is a popular tradition in Britain, Germany, and Scandinavia
