Nearly half of all our delegates here at our Triennial National Convention in Halifax are attending for their first time. This is what building a powerful movement for worker rights looks like. Whether you've been here for 2 years or 20 years (or more!), we all have a lot to learn, and a lot to give.

Près de la moitié de nos délégué-e-s présent-e-s ici, à notre congrès national triennal à Halifax, y participent pour la première fois. Voilà à quoi ressemble un mouvement fort et puissant pour les droits des travailleuses et des travailleurs. Que vous soyez parmi nous depuis 2 ans ou 20 ans (voire plus !), nous avons tous beaucoup à apprendre et beaucoup à apporter.

Our friends at the National Farmers Union / L'Union nationale des fermiers just published an excellent piece in the Watershed Sentinel on the impacts of the cuts to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada at a time of increasing climate crises. A must read.

"The feds are also determined to increase defence spending, a move that will intensify fossil fuel emissions both in Canada and abroad. The decision to redirect spending into carbon-intensive military infrastructure and out of programs, facilities, and research networks that have been helping farmers to both mitigate and adapt to climate change should concern not just agricultural organizations, but all of us. The impacts from these decisions will have disastrous consequences for many years to come."

A very useful breakdown of the (now over) pistachio salmonella outbreak and its fallout in the Toronto Star. The recall of pistachio products was one of the largest food recalls in recent years.

If only 200 people got sick (and thankfully no fatalities) from a massive salmonella outbreak, it's because CFIA food inspectors stand between contaminated food and your pantry shelf. So why is the Carney government massively cutting the CFIA?

Once you hit stop on a research project, you can't just start it up again. With its major cuts to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the government is just hoping to shuffle around its research projects, but it's still firing researchers, destroying crops, and selling off machinery.

The recent MOU between Canada and Saskatchewan on the Indian Head and Scott research farms is the feds trying to save face while turning their backs on public science. Agriculture Union President Milton Dyck recently joined RealAgriculture to break it all down.

The governments of Canada and Saskatchewan recently signed a deal on the future of the Indian Head and Scott research farms, but for our members who work there, it essentially amouts to nothing. They are still being threatened with job losses, and there is no indication on how the important research programs of these farms will be preserved.

Our President Milton Dyck joined RealAgriculture to discuss the deal, the cuts, and their impact for Canadian farmers.
