Westboro Legion Branch 480 Serving Veterans & the community. Membership not required to visit the branch or attend most events. Patrick’s Day, and Canada Day.

If you’re 18+ and a citizen of Canada or a Commonwealth or allied country – and you share our mission – you can join the Canadian Legion. Application forms are available at our branch or at www.legion.ca. Your membership dues help us provide services to veterans and military and RCMP members and their families. They also enable us to provide essential community services, including housing and care for the elderly, cadets, youth and sports programs, and much more. The Poppy Campaign and Remembrance
The money donated by Canadians wishing to honour the fallen and surviving veterans by wearing a poppy, is used to help veterans and ex-service members and their families when they are in need of assistance. We also hold an annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the Westboro Cenotaph and ask all to join us as we remember the men and women who gave their lives for us in missions around the world. Our branch offers a variety of activities for both our members and members of our community. We put on regular weekly dances, run sports and games leagues, and provide entertainment to help celebrate annual observances such as Valentine’s Day, St. We organize trivia nights four times a year, inviting players to win donations to their favourite charities. We also hold Wednesday night bingos where all proceeds go to support local causes. In 2012-2013, for example, we donated $21,550 to 35 local organizations. Volunteers
As a not-for-profit group, we could not fulfill our mission without our dedicated volunteers, from the members of our ladies auxiliary to the members and nonmembers who help staff our poppy drive.

A MUST SEE FILM FROM ITALY

GINO: A CHILD OF WAR, A Special Centennial Presentation

Imagine being 74 years old before finally discovering the truth about your earliest years and your own identity.

Gino was only five when he was found alone and frightened near Torrice, Italy, during the Second World War. Canadian soldiers took him in, cared for him, and gave him safety in the midst of war.

Decades later, an unexpected letter and an old photograph brought back memories of a childhood almost lost to history, and they began an extraordinary search for the truth.

Some stories of war are told through battles won and lost. This one is told through the eyes of a five-year-old child.

Gino: A Child of War is a powerful story of war, compassion, hope, and the extraordinary difference a simple act of kindness can make.

As the Royal Canadian Legion celebrates its 100th anniversary, Westboro Branch 480 invites you to join us for this very special presentation.
