In Liberia and Sierra Leone, newly qualified teachers are celebrating a milestone that will shape not only their futures but also the futures of every student they teach.

Through CODE’s Teaching and Learning in Fragile Contexts (TLFC) and Girls’ Accelerated Learning Initiative (GALI) programs, hundreds of teachers have earned their formal teaching certificates — a moment that was marked by pride, perseverance, and possibility.

Our team had the privilege of being there to witness these celebrations firsthand. We saw the impact up close, meeting educators whose dedication is already transforming classrooms and communities.

These certifications represent more than a credential. They are a gateway to stronger teaching, more confident educators, and better learning outcomes for children. Behind each certificate is a story of determination, and ahead of each teacher is a classroom full of learners whose lives will be changed because of it.

Books are already making their way into children’s hands in Malawi, and the impact is immediate.

Through the Let’s Read Ntchisi! project, newly delivered books are reaching classrooms where they are needed most. Written in Chichewa, the language children know and love, they are filled with culturally relevant stories designed to build confidence and strengthen literacy.

These are more than just books. They are an invitation for children to see themselves in what they read, to engage, to imagine, and to learn in a way that feels personal and meaningful. With careful distribution ensuring every book reaches the right classroom, this marks the beginning of a two-year journey to transform reading outcomes in the community.
