We are a group of empowered women of colour in Ottawa, building safer spaces for women of colour to build our leadership and celebrate our intersectionality and differences. The overall purpose of the organization is to offer opportunities for skill development, health and wellness, spirituality, and outreach. This group hopes to unite the Muslim sisters (youth) in Ottawa to connect, share & learn from each other.

After 5 years of building, dreaming, and growing together, here’s what stood out at our celebration shining some light over the last 5 years of empower’em’s achievements...

- 280+ women of colour applied to Our Way Forward

- 292 mentor-mentee sessions held (that’s a lot of wisdom shared!)

- 116 participants from across 8 provinces

- 28 languages spoken — a truly multilingual, multicultural community

- 50+ events, including meetups, socials, and peer support

- Inspiring stories of resilience, healing, and leadership

We’ve seen firsthand what happens when women of colour are given the space to be seen, supported, and celebrated. This is what growth looks like—and we’re just getting started.

✨ Meet the Eye Behind the Lens at Deeply Rooted ✨
We’re beyond excited to introduce Trinh Kien, the incredible photographer capturing the magic of Deeply Rooted this weekend! 📸
Trinh is a Vietnamese-Canadian Multimedia Producer & Director whose work spans photography, filmmaking, and design. You might have seen her projects on Bell Fibe TV, CBC Gem, and Rogers TV—her storytelling is nothing short of breathtaking.
As a q***r and neurodivergent artist, Trinh is passionate about crafting authentic, diverse narratives that spark connection and inspire change. Through her lens, she captures the moments that bring communities together—and we can’t wait to see the magic she creates at Deeply Rooted!
Make sure to smile, strike a pose, or just soak in the moment—Trinh will be capturing it all. ✨
