Housing is more than a roof. It is stability, dignity, opportunity, and the foundation from which families and communities can thrive.

Ottawa is facing significant housing pressures. In April 2026, City Council approved a new 2026–2035 Housing and Homelessness Plan, with a renewed focus on housing affordability, preventing housing loss, and ensuring people have the supports they need to remain housed.

But as Ottawa moves forward, equity must remain at the centre of the conversation.

Black residents and families should be able to access safe, stable, and affordable housing without facing barriers related to income, discrimination, or other systemic factors.

At the Ottawa Black Coalition, we believe that housing policy must reflect the realities of the communities it serves.

A stronger Ottawa starts with communities where everyone has a place to call home.

Bonne fête du Canada! 🇨🇦

Aujourd’hui, nous célébrons la richesse de la diversité du Canada ainsi que les nombreuses cultures, histoires et communautés qui contribuent à la force de notre pays.

En réfléchissant à ce que signifie être Canadien, nous reconnaissons également que bâtir un Canada plus équitable est une responsabilité que nous partageons tous. Nous rendons hommage à la résilience, aux contributions et au leadership des communautés noires, tout en reconnaissant qu’il reste encore du travail à accomplir afin que chacun ait la possibilité de s’épanouir.

À l’Ottawa Black Coalition (OBC), nous demeurons déterminés à bâtir un avenir où chaque personne noire d’Ottawa se sent vue, valorisée et soutenue.

En cette fête du Canada, célébrons notre communauté, favorisons l’inclusion et poursuivons ensemble nos efforts pour construire un Canada où l’équité, la justice et le sentiment d’appartenance sont une réalité pour tous.

Today, we celebrate the beauty of Canada’s diversity and the many cultures, histories, and communities that make our country stronger.

As we reflect on what it means to be Canadian, we also recognize that building a more equitable Canada is a shared responsibility. We honour the resilience, contributions, and leadership of Black communities while acknowledging that there is still work to be done to ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

At OBC, we remain committed to creating a future where every Black resident in Ottawa feels seen, valued, and empowered.

This Canada Day, let’s celebrate community, embrace inclusion, and continue working toward a Canada where equity, justice, and belonging are realities for all. Write in French
