FHF Summer Employability and Life Skills Camp!

Weeks 4 and 7 (see dates below)

Ages 14+

This camp is suitable for teens and adults who are practicing independence. We will begin with discussions about goals and the weeks will be filled with transferable and life skills practice!

Along with daily checklists to track reliability and responsibility among other things, we'll explore skills like budgeting, meal planning, kitchen skills, cleaning, shopping and money math throughout the week with daily practice for map-reading and taking public transit. Every day will end with a bus ride towards home, and each week will end with a little party, certificates and small gifts for on-track checklist completion!

Campers must have a mobile device (with access to Wi-Fi or a data plan) and will need to bring their own lunch, water bottle and snacks, as well as sun protection and their Presto pass.

Weekly camp fees are $250, and we need a minimum of 4 registrations to run each week. Pre-registrants will receive a confirmation once we reach the minimum. Discounts for multiple weeks and/or family members are available. Please don't hesitate to ask for a quote!

FHF Summer Variety Camp!

Weeks 1, 2, 3 and 6

Ages 6+

These weeks will be a mix of activities. We'll have music sessions, do some crafting, play games, have scavenger hunts, do science experiments, enjoy the outdoors with as many picnic lunches and nature walks as we want - Frank Ryan Park is nearby so we'll be using that space and the little forest beside it when the weather's nice - and every day will have some downtime/free time sprinkled in as necessary. We'll also aim to have a bigger outing each week, to an outdoor pool, a splash pad or to Britannia Beach. Registrants will receive exact schedule details one week ahead.

Here's Part 2 of our FAQs:

Q. What is Musicability?

A. Musicability is our little choir/music group. It's led by Angèle (and her ukulele) and is made up of staff, volunteers, program participants and members of the community. We sing at various locations around town, bringing music to retirement homes and day programs for example, and we're working on putting on some fundraisers and shows in the coming months.

Q. What is Harmoni'art?

A. Harmoni'art is the crafting part of the business. We create handmade products and our focus is keeping things out of the landfills so we reuse and repurpose items in a lot of our projects. Then we sell our creations at fairs and markets. This provides opportunities for our participants to practice transferable skills and brings in much-needed funds to our programs.

Q. What is Employability?

A. Employability came about a few years into our early FHF programs, as a way for participants who couldn't afford full fees to continue doing meaningful things with their time, learning transferable skills, and to help the program grow! We have a checklist of skills, tasks and routines to learn and practice and participants move through levels, adding more responsibilities as they go and participants can earn tangible rewards or gift cards!

Feel free to reach out with any other questions!! ✨️💖✨️

Curious about FHF's programs and summer camps?
Here are a few FAQs:

Q. Are your programs and camps only for people with disabilities? Do I need a diagnosis?

A. Absolutely not! Our team is led by trained and experienced Developmental Services Workers and we welcome disabled and neurodivergent folks as well as their neurotypical and able-bodied peers, to join our activities! Diagnoses are not required! Fees are based on support required to participate comfortably.

Q. Are you non-profit or a charity?

A. Not yet. While we're exploring this avenue, FHF is technically a for-profit business but it is run as a Social Enterprise. Revenues are reinvested into our programs and activities.

Q. What are the group ratios of staff : clients?

A. Typically our ratios are around 1 : 6 but we often have extra helpers around as well, such as volunteers, senior Employability program members, DSW (or related programs) placement students.. we staff according to need so if someone needs closer support, it's something we can discuss.

Q. What ages are your programs aimed at? What about summer camps?

A. During the school year our group tends to be adults but during March Break and Summer we welcome kids and teens too!

Stay tuned for more FAQs in Part 2!! ✨️💖✨️
