Lauréates et lauréats 2026 des Prix d’excellence de l’Association des paramédics du Canada

L’Association des paramédics du Canada (APC) est heureuse de dévoiler les lauréates et les lauréats des Prix d’excellence 2026 de l’APC. La remise des prix aura lieu à Victoria, en Colombie-Britannique, lors du gala de l’exposition nationale Paramedics Across Canada Expo (PACE), le 19 septembre 2026. Nous félicitons chaleureusement l’ensemble des lauréates et des lauréats et soulignons leur contribution exceptionnelle à la profession paramédicale, aux soins aux patients et aux populations qu’ils servent.

Nikki Little, BHSc, ACP – Winnipeg (Manitoba)
Paramédic de l’année de l’APC 2026

Nikki Little est paramédic depuis plus de 30 ans. Tout au long de sa carrière au sein du Service d’incendie et des services paramédicaux de Winnipeg, son engagement envers la sécurité des patients et l’amélioration de la qualité se reflète dans son travail soutenu visant à favoriser une plus grande équité dans les soins paramédicaux de première ligne. Son leadership a joué un rôle essentiel dans la transition vers une approche systémique de la sécurité des patients, s’éloignant des réponses traditionnelles aux erreurs médicales. Aujourd’hui, Nikki continue de servir la profession paramédicale à titre de registraire adjointe du College of Paramedics of Manitoba.

Michael Thomas, ACP – Whitby (Ontario)
Prix d’excellence de l’APC 2026 en éducation et formation

Michael Thomas est professeur et coordonnateur du programme de paramédecine du Centennial College. Il consacre depuis près de 20 ans sa carrière à façonner l’avenir de la paramédecine en Ontario. Il représente la profession au sein du comité consultatif médical de l’Ontario Base Hospital Group. Michael a également participé à la révision de manuels paramédicaux publiés en éditions canadiennes et a contribué à l’élaboration de la Norme professionnelle nationale des paramédics. Son implication dans toutes les sphères de la paramédecine permet de faire entendre la voix des paramédics aux plus hauts niveaux de gouvernance clinique.


Will Johnston, MSc, BA, ACP – Ottawa (Ontario)
Prix d’excellence de l’APC 2026 en innovation et recherche

Will Johnston est paramédic en soins avancés au sein de l’Unité tactique des Services paramédicaux d’Ottawa ainsi que paramédic auprès de la Réserve des services de santé des Forces armées canadiennes (28e Ambulance de campagne). Éducateur et chercheur, il s’intéresse particulièrement à la médecine tactique préhospitalière. Il a dirigé l’élaboration du Cadre national de compétences des paramédics tactiques et milite activement en faveur des rôles spécialisés en paramédecine. Will a collaboré à de nombreuses publications et présentations qui ont contribué à faire progresser la paramédecine au Canada.

Tara Watson – Woodstock, Nouveau-Brunswick
Prix d’excellence de l’APC 2026 en leadership et mobilisation communautaire

Tara Watson est paramédic depuis plus de 30 ans. Elle travaille pour Ambulance Nouveau-Brunswick depuis 18 ans, où elle occupe actuellement le poste de gestionnaire des opérations. Depuis de nombreuses années, elle agit comme défenseure et leader de la profession paramédicale au Canada. Tara a occupé le poste de secrétaire-trésorière de l’Association des paramédics du Canada au cours des années fondatrices de l’organisation. Elle a également été membre active de l’Association des paramédics du Nouveau-Brunswick, où elle a successivement assumé les fonctions de secrétaire, de vice-présidente puis de présidente. Elle a été l’une des premières membres de la Paramedic Benevolent Society ainsi qu’une membre fondatrice de la Fondation commémorative des paramédics du Canada, où elle siège toujours au comité exécutif à titre de secrétaire. Tara est reconnue pour sa capacité à faire progresser les organisations et pour son soutien constant à ses collègues paramédics, avec discrétion et professionnalisme.

Lyle Renaud, ACP – St. Catharines (Ontario)
Prix d’excellence de l’APC 2026 en bénévolat et esprit communautaire

Lyle Renaud est paramédic en soins avancés et surintendant des opérations chez Niagara EMS. Défenseur engagé de la santé mentale, il est également membre de longue date de l’équipe de soutien par les pairs. S’appuyant sur son expérience personnelle, il offre des interventions de soutien entre pairs en personne ainsi que des séances de retour d’expérience à la suite d’incidents critiques. Son travail favorise la confiance, la sécurité psychologique, la cohésion en milieu de travail et la déstigmatisation des blessures de stress professionnel. Il œuvre également à renforcer la collaboration entre la direction et le personnel de première ligne afin de favoriser un milieu de travail plus cohésif et plus soutenant. Au sein de sa communauté, Lyle poursuit son engagement par l’entremise d’un organisme qui accompagne les anciens combattants et les premiers répondants vivant avec des blessures de stress post-traumatique (BSPT).

2026 Paramedic Association of Canada Awards of Excellence Recipients

The Paramedic Association of Canada is pleased to announce the recipients of the Paramedic Association of Canada Awards of Excellence for 2026. These awards will be presented in Victoria, BC during the Paramedics Across Canada Expo (PACE) Gala, on Sept 19th, 2026. We congratulate the following recipients and recognize their outstanding contributions to the Paramedic profession, the patients and communities they serve:

Nikki Little, BHSc, ACP – Winnipeg, Manitoba
2026 PAC Paramedic of the Year

Nikki is a Paramedic with over 30 years of service. Throughout her career with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, her commitment to patient safety and quality improvement expressed themselves in her continuing work to improve equity in frontline paramedic care. Her leadership was essential in shifting toward a systems-based approach patient safety and away from traditional responses to medical error. Today, Nikki continues to serve the paramedic profession as the Deputy Registrar of the College of Paramedics of Manitoba.

Michael Thomas, ACP - Whitby, Ontario
2026 PAC Award of Excellence for Education and Training

Michael is a highly respected Professor and Program Coordinator at Centennial College’s Paramedic Program, has dedicated nearly 20 years to shaping the future of paramedicine in Ontario. He is a representative on the Ontario Base Hospital Group Medical Advisory Committee. Michael has reviewed paramedic textbooks for publication as Canadian editions, and was involved in the development of the National Occupational Standard for Paramedics. His participation in all aspects of paramedicine ensures that paramedics’ voices are heard at the highest levels of clinical governance.

Will Johnston, MSc, BA, ACP – Ottawa, Ontario.
2026 PAC Award of Excellence for Innovation and Research

Will is an advanced care paramedic with the Paramedic Tactical Unit at the Ottawa Paramedic Service and a paramedic with the Canadian Armed Forces, Health Services Reserves (28 Field Ambulance). Will is an educator and researcher, with a particular interest in prehospital tactical medicine. He led the development of the National Competency Framework for Tactical Paramedics (NCFTP) and is an advocate for specialist paramedic roles. Will has collaborated on numerous publications and presentations that have advanced paramedicine in Canada.


Tara Watson - Woodstock, New Brunswick
2026 PAC Award of Excellence for Leadership and Community Building

Tara has been a paramedic for over 30 years. Working with Ambulance New Brunswick for 18 years where she is currently an Operations Manager. She has long been an advocate and leader for the Paramedic profession in Canada. Tara was Secretary-Treasurer for the Paramedic Association of Canada during its foundational years. She was an active member of Paramedic Association of New Brunswick including roles as Secretary, VP and then President. Tara was an early member of the Paramedic Benevolent Society and a founding member of the Canadian Paramedic Memorial Foundation where she remains the on the Executive Board as Secretary. Tara is known for always moving organizations forward and supporting her paramedic colleagues, quietly and professionally.

Lyle Renaud, ACP – St Catherines, Ontario
2026 PAC Award of Excellence for Volunteerism and Community Spirit

Lyle is an Advanced Care Paramedic and Operations Superintendent with Niagara EMS, a dedicated mental health advocate, and a long-standing member of the peer support team. Drawing on lived experience, he provides face-to-face peer support interventions and timely post-incident debriefs that promote trust, psychological safety, workplace cohesion, and the destigmatization of occupational stress injuries. He works to strengthen collaboration between leadership and frontline staff, fostering a more cohesive and supportive workplace. Within his community, Lyle continues his advocacy through an organization that supports veterans and first responders learning to live with post-traumatic stress injuries (PTSI).

Every letter of support for the National Paramedic Monument from a Member of Parliament (MP) carries with it a tremendous amount of weight. Deliberations on the new budget are coming in April. This is an urgent request for you to join the CPMF in mobilizing our MPs to support the monument.

The Paramedic Association of Canada recognizes a "Paramedic of the Year." This recipient is chosen out of all award nominations received for our Awards of Excellence program.

Visit Paramedic.ca and nominate someone for one of our Awards of Excellence. The strongest nomination from across all categories will be awarded the title of "Paramedic of the Year for 2026" at PACE - Paramedicine Across Canada Expo / Paramédecine Au Canada Expo in Victoria.
