The Rotaract Club of Ottawa South is a student-led not-for-profit service club based at Carleton University. We are a close-knit group of motivated and compassionate individuals working to support social change locally and internationally. Our work includes a variety of hands-on volunteering, fundraising, and advocacy for issues such as disease prevention, healthcare, education, economic developme
nt, and more. We also run fellowship activities and professional development events for both our club and community members. Supporting our communities, both local and international, is our club’s focus. Here are some of our highlights from the past few years:
-- Our yearly coffeehouse raises $1000 annually for Shelterbox International, an emergency disaster relief organization that provides necessities for people displaced by conflict or natural disasters.
-- The Penguins for Polio campaign raised $5600 for eradicating polio efforts and donated 175 plush penguins to local charities in Ottawa.
-- We are the official adopters of Brighton Beach Park in Old Ottawa South.
-- Our members have volunteered at numerous Ottawa organizations, including Out of the Ottawa Mission, Fletcher’s Wildlife Garden, and more!
-- Annually, we run an online auction in support of various charities. Past organizations include HELP Honduras, End Polio Now, and WASH programs.
-- The club’s members are also avid volunteers for other Carleton organizations, like Relay for Life and the Terry Fox Run. Members have been research assistants through the I-CUREUS program, presenters at SOAR Leadership Conference, and student athletes for varsity sports. These highlights don’t include the hikes, game nights, dinners, and day-to-day interactions that have made our club such a close-knit group. They also don’t include our connections to Rotaract clubs across the continent (and the world!) or to Rotary clubs in our area. If you’re interested in joining a group of kind-hearted and passionate people who are dedicated to changing their world for the better, send us a message and come out to a meeting!
