Celebrating 87 wonderful years!

Over the weekend, we had the joy of celebrating the 87th birthday of our founder, Nazira Tareen.

Her vision, dedication, and decades of service have helped shape OMWO and the community we continue to serve today. We are grateful for the legacy she has built and the countless lives she has touched along the way.

Happy 87th Birthday, Nazira! May the year ahead bring you continued joy, good health, and many blessings.💚

Education has the power to change lives, strengthen communities, and inspire future leaders.

The Nazira Tareen Award was established to honour the legacy of OMWO’s founder and first President, whose vision and dedication helped build an organization that continues to serve and empower women today.

Through this $1,000 scholarship, we hope to support a young woman who demonstrates academic commitment, leadership, and a passion for giving back to her community.

Earlier this year, OMWO was proud to launch our Seniors Program, made possible through funding from the New Horizons for Seniors Program! 💚

We kicked things off with a wonderful Seniors Brunch where old friends reunited, new friendships began, and, most importantly, we listened. Our seniors shared the kinds of activities, workshops, and experiences they would love to see, and we are excited to bring those ideas to life throughout the year.

At OMWO, our seniors are at the heart of what we do. We are committed to creating opportunities for connection, learning, wellness, and plenty of memorable moments together.

If you are a senior, or you know someone who would enjoy being part of our community, we would love to welcome you. Follow us to see what is coming next. We cannot wait to share this journey with you!

As we get older, taking care of our mental and emotional well-being becomes just as important as taking care of our physical health.

The Ottawa Muslim Women's Organization (OMWO) is hosting a Senior Wellness Circle, a welcoming space for seniors to come together, share experiences, learn practical strategies for maintaining resilience, and connect with others in the community.
We are pleased to be joined by the Council on Aging of Ottawa for a thoughtful conversation on mental wellness, healthy aging, and staying connected.

Smiles, laughter, great conversations, and a beautiful afternoon in the park. ☀️🌳

Our Seniors Social: Picnic in the Park was a wonderful opportunity for seniors to connect, build new friendships, and enjoy a day of community and fellowship.

We were honored to welcome MPP Chandra Pasma and Ottawa City Councilor Theresa Kavanagh, who took the time to join us and engage with our seniors. Thank you for your continued support of community initiatives that bring people together.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event such a success.

This is just the beginning. OMWO will be hosting more events, workshops, and social gatherings for seniors throughout the year, so stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to connect, learn, and have fun!
