Migrant workers in Canada face shocking exploitation under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). Amnesty International’s latest report reveals how this system traps workers in abusive conditions by tying them to a single employer who controls their migration status and labour rights.

From agriculture to construction, from care work to food processing, thousands are vulnerable to discrimination and mistreatment. Enough is enough.

🇪🇨 Their mission? To raise urgent concerns about Canada-Ecuador free trade negotiations and ensure their voices were heard by Canadian decision-makers.

🌍✊ Export Development Canada: Stop Financing Harm!

📢 We call on Export Development Canada (EDC) to prioritize human rights and environmental protection over harmful investments like the Hidroituango dam in Colombia.

🛑 Despite warnings of corruption, displacement, and violence, EDC financed projects that devastate communities and ecosystems. Promises of reform are not enough without real action!

In December, we hosted two Write-for-Rights events 📝✨ to support 9 human rights activists around the world. One of them was Neth Nahara, arrested in Angola for using social media to defend human rights 🌍✊.

💌 Thanks to the powerful letter-writing efforts of Amnesty International members, Neth Nahara and 4 other unjustly detained critics were freed after over a year behind bars. 🎉👏

🆓✊ Free Huseyin Celil!

Huseyin Celil is a Canadian citizen and Uyghur human rights activist who fled China after being jailed for defending Uyghur rights. In 2006, while visiting family in Uzbekistan, he was wrongfully arrested and sent to China, where he was tortured and sentenced to life in prison after an unfair trial.

He’s been silenced, separated from his family, and denied justice for nearly 20 years. No one has heard from him since 2016.

✨ This year, one of the cases relates directly to Canada:
The Wet’suwet’en land defenders have been peacefully protesting the construction of a pipeline on their traditional territory. Their protests have been met with violence and criminalization, including police raids with semi-automatic weapons and the arrests of over 75 land defenders.

We must do all we can to support them and prevent these human rights violations, including the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

🌍🚨 Genocide in Gaza: A Call for Action 🚨🌍

Amnesty International has released a groundbreaking report, "You Feel Like You Are Subhuman: Israel's Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza", documenting extensive evidence of genocide committed by Israel against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. 💔

🔎 The report details how, following the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attacks in southern Israel, Israel has carried out a relentless military offensive in Gaza with:
➡️ Killings of civilians
➡️ Serious physical and mental harm
➡️ Deliberate conditions of life designed to destroy communities

🗣️ Agnes Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, stated:
"Our damning findings must serve as a wake-up call to the international community: this is genocide. It must stop now. States that continue to transfer arms to Israel must know they are violating their obligation to prevent genocide and risk complicity."

🌎 The world must take action to uphold justice and prevent further atrocities.
