Ottawa Voyageurs Walking Club

Ottawa Voyageurs Walking Club Volkssport events are non-competitive and without the stress of speed or strains of endurance.

The Ottawa Voyageurs Walking Club was formed on 12 Februray 2002 when the Rockcliffe Rovers and the Club Volkssport Orléans completed their amalgamation and began operating under the new name of the Ottawa Voyageurs Walking Club. Volkssport events are events (types of events are described below) sanctioned by the International Federation of Popular Sports (Internationaler Volkssportverband (IVV))

through the Canadian Volkssport Federation (CVF). Volkssporters enjoy walking, skiing, swimming, skating events which allow them to exercise at their own pace building up their fitness level and each participant is a winner. Participants are encouraged to build up their fitness levels by participating in challenge programs offered by the CVF.

Pre-walkers:
We need a club member to assist the Ontario Director. (The King’s Town Trekkers will also have a club member to assist with this job). You will annually advise which Ontario walks to add or remove and attend online Zoom meetings (4-5 times a year) with the CVF Board of Directors to report on Volkssport happenings in Ontario.
Our Executive is looking for 1-2 club members for the Vice President position, starting as soon as practical. Why not share this position with a friend or spouse.

King’s Town Trekkers Anniversary Walk
MERRICKVILLE, ON

START POINT: Parking lot next to Health Centre, 354 Read St., Merrickville ON K0G 1N0

DISTANCES: 5/10 KM 1B

REGISTRATION: Times 10:00 – 10:30 am, 10 km walkers map or GPS walk
10:30 – 11:00 am, 5 km walkers group walk

The Merrickville Blockhouse was designated a National Historic Site. Routes take you through the beautiful town on some country roads and down the locks of the Rideau Canal.

It is a combination of paved and dirt roads and paths. There are stairs at the locks, and you will be crossing the canal on one of the locks.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS: Canada A-Z, Canada Cup of Walking, Walk 100

DIRECTIONS TO START POINT: From Kingston, 401 East toward Brockville, exit 698 Augusta Rd. Follow County Rd. 6 to County Rd. 15 to Merrickville to Brock St, Left on Brock St to Read St., right on Read St. to the start point.

From Ottawa, take 416 S to Dilworth Rd/Ottawa 13. Take exit 42. Follow Route 5, Donnelly Dr, and County Rd 2, which becomes Broadway St., closer to Merrickville, turn left onto Mill St. over the canal to Main St., Right on Main St. to Read St., left on Read St.
