A Broader Leadership Table — On The Other Hill

Canada is at a hinge moment.

We are navigating geopolitical strain, infrastructure pressure, energy transition, and institutional fatigue — all at the same time. The decisions made in the coming decade will shape our economic resilience, democratic vitality, and social cohesion for generations.

But Canada cannot meet its ambitions with only part of its talent fully engaged.

Across our most strategic sectors — politics, defence, infrastructure, energy — women remain underrepresented where consequential authority is exercised: where capital is allocated, where priorities are set, where national direction is determined.
The question is not whether women belong. Exceptional women are already leading across these domains.

The question is whether we are intentionally scaling women’s authority as a strategic asset.

That is the premise behind Power Shift — Women Redefining Leadership in Canada, a national platform convening senior and emerging women in serious, intergenerational dialogue about how leadership must evolve in the decade ahead
The Other Hill is delighted to sponsor the launch of Power Shift — Women Redefining Leadership in Canada.

At its heart, The Other Hill exists to cultivate a civic commons — a place where dialogue lives, where leadership is examined with care, and where institutions are invited to evolve in relationship with community, land, and history.

Power Shift belongs in that conversation.

As Canada navigates a period of institutional strain and generational change, it is essential that we examine not only policy and capital, but culture — how authority is held, how it is renewed, and who is invited to shape the direction of our country.
Supporting Leading Differently: Women, Power & Politics reflects our commitment to fostering spaces where serious civic dialogue can unfold across generations, sectors, and lived experience.

The Other Hill was created to bring people together — residents, students, public servants, artists, parliamentarians, neighbours — to reflect on who we are and where we are going.

This event is part of that shared work.

We invite our community to join this national conversation and to help shape the leadership culture Canada will need in the decade ahead. Link for tickets in the post, only a few remain.

Recognizing that The Other Hill is located on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe people, we are committed to fostering conversations, community, and programming that support truth and reconciliation, today and throughout the year.

Join us on October 27 for an evening with Bob Joseph, presented in partnership with Perfect Books, celebrating the launch of his latest book, 21 Things You Need to Know About Indigenous Self-Government: A Conversation About Dismantling the Indian Act.

Bob Joseph, author of the national bestseller 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act, presents an inspiring vision of progress, where Indigenous self-governance is already underway and should be embraced rather than feared.

You Need to Know About Indigenous Self-Government: A Conversation About Dismantling the Indian Act.

Bob Joseph, auteur du best-seller national 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act, présente une vision inspirante du progrès, où l’autonomie gouvernementale autochtone est déjà en cours et doit être accueillie avec confiance plutôt qu’avec crainte.

On the same day that Parliament resumed on the actual Hill, more than 50 community leaders from the non-profit to the business sector met to consider three questions:

• Ottawa would be a better capital city if …
• My responsibility to future generations has me wishing …
• And a difficult conversation we need to have is …

The responses to these questions were poignant and rich, always focused on what policies mean for people. The overarching theme was the importance of human connection.

See the graphic depiction of the conversation by Bridge Building Group below.
