Granny Squares for Tumbler Ridge School

Following the February 2026 Tumbler Ridge Secondary School shooting, a team in British Columbia started a project to make comfort blankets for the teachers and students from squares donated to them by Canadian crocheters coast to coast.

The Granny Squares for Warmth group sent 72 squares to the team today in support of this project.

Message of Appreciation from Nunavut

Kathleen will be travelling to Nunavut in May and will take our baby blankets there. Here is a message that I received from her today:

"I was speaking with someone at the Law Society of Nunavut yesterday and she mentioned that she sees so many young moms in the communities in Nunavut who have the knitted and crocheted blankets that I’ve brought. She said that I’ve single handedly supplied practically all the new moms with much needed warmth.

I quickly said, it’s not me, I’m just the mode of transportation, credit goes to Granny Squares for Warmth. I told her about your group and all the amazing things you are doing. She was so impressed with your group. She said that it has really made such a difference and it’s so appreciated."

On November 20 2025, Granny Squares for Warmth donated five blankets (a throw and four large lap blankets) to Destiny's Way, an adult day program in Barrhaven dedicated to the developmental community. These blankets will help the young adults stay warm, especially when hanging out in the basement recreational area of their house.

On February 8 2026, Shelley and Guylene of Granny Squares for Warmth met with members of Fil Anthropy, a new group of Ottawa residents who are crocheting and knitting for charity. Together they arranged 8" granny squares made by Fil Anthropy members into blankets which will be joined by Granny Squares for Warmth members.
