💙 Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and cared for.

For many children entering foster or kinship care, the transition can be overwhelming. Some arrive at a new home with their belongings in a garbage bag, or with nothing at all.

Through the Ted & Loretta Rogers Foster Care Transition Program, children entering care in Ottawa receive comfort kits filled with thoughtful essentials, including:

🎒 A bag to carry their belongings
🧸 Blankets, toys, and games
🫧 Personal hygiene products
💙 Culturally relevant items for Black, Muslim, and First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children

These kits offer more than just practical items. They provide a little comfort, familiarity, and reassurance during a very uncertain time.

One Child Protection Worker shared a heartwarming moment after four sisters received their kits:

"Foster mom was happy to see that they each got their own teddy bear so there were no fights. Graciela said, 'Wait, it's not Christmas! Why did Santa come?!'"

If you're a current or former youth in the care of the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa and you're headed to college, university, or trade school — this one's for you.

Applications close November 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM

🎓 This round covers the Winter 2027 and Spring 2027 terms

✉️ Decisions go out by December 7, 2026

You don't have to wait on your acceptance letter — apply now so you don't miss the deadline. Late applications can't be reviewed.

The Winter Clothing Drive powered by Cooper Equipment Rentals is coming to Ottawa for the first time — after 11 successful years in Northern Ontario.

From now until November 6, dig into your hearts while you dig into your closets. Drop off winter coats, snow suits, boots, mittens, toques and scarves — all sizes, all genders, all ages — at any Ottawa Cooper Equipment Rentals location:

📍 Merivale – 1905 Merivale Road
📍 Downtown – 927 Wellington St. W.

Weekdays 7am–4pm (excluding holidays). No after-hours drop-offs, please.

👋 MEET OUR BOARD: Bob Huggins, Director

Bob is a technology pioneer known for transforming historical newspaper archives into searchable digital images — work that unlocked community histories from Canada's Globe and Mail and Toronto Star, to the Mexican Revolution, to over a century of baseball history through The Sporting News. His work with The Sporting News even earned him a spot on the "100 Influential Canadians in Baseball" list! ⚾️📰

In 2008, Bob's company was acquired by Google, and he's since become a mentor and investor supporting over 100 startups across Canada. He also fulfilled a lifelong dream in 2015, producing and directing an award-winning documentary for TVO. 🎬

Now, Bob brings that same pioneering spirit and passion for storytelling to CAFO's Board: 💙

"CAFO is essential in helping children in our community to achieve their full potential as they strive to overcome obstacles that life has laid before them. I'm proud to lend a hand in their journey."

There's no wrong time to start. 🎓

If you're a current or former youth in the care of the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa and you're headed to college, university or trade school, the Dare to Dream Bursary is for you — right up to age 30. Government supports end at 23. Ours don't.

The next round of applications open October 5th, for the Winter 2027 and Spring/Summer 2027 terms. Be sure to apply before the deadline: November 9th at 5:00 pm.

Both first-time and returning applicants are welcome, and you can apply before your official acceptance comes through — just get it in before the posted deadline.

A little rain can't keep our Dream Launchers from showing up for children and youth! ☔

Yesterday, over 130 business leaders and community champions came to play at the BDC | CAFO Annual Charity Golf Tournament presented by Bank Street Toyota. Together, we raised an incredible $38,971 in net proceeds!

Thank you to our partners, golfers, volunteers, and youth ambassadors for showing up and braving the weather for such an important cause. You are helping kids access enrichment, education, youth transition, and mental health support that will make a REAL difference in their lives.

We can't wait to do it again next year – hopefully with a little more sun! ☀️
